Your boys are about the same age as our placement...and i'm kind of freaking out that we aren't ready. Mind if I ask some questions so i can get a start on my shopping list?
- what kind of bed? toddler bed? regular bed w/ rails? no rails?
- how much do your boys weigh? (is that too personal?? lol - i'm just making sure our car seat will be appropriate!)
- do they still use a stoller?
- sippy cup or regular cups?
- how 'into' stuff are they? do we need to worry about putting the safety locks on cabinets, doors, ect? or are they pretty much over that stage?
- gates needed for stairs or not anymore?
- for dinner do they sit in a normal kitchen chair or a booster?
- favorite toys? tv shows? movies?
thank you!!!

Re: *2brides*
I just thought I'd but in since my brother is this age too!
-He sleeps in his crib with one side off, no rail (it's a convertible)
-I don't know how much he weighs, but he is big for his age, so wearing 4T/5T clothes - don't know about his carseat.
-He still uses a stroller in some instances.
-He uses a regular cup at home for meals. Also has some fun "kid cups" with built in straw.
-My brother is kind of a hurricane, LOL. He gets into everything, but is kind of beyond traditional "baby-proofing"
-My parents don't use a gate for the stairs anymore.
-No more booster seat for my brother. He kneels on his chair, though he's not really too big for a booster.
-He loves trains (Thomas!), dinosaurs, and his play kitchen. He loves to pretend to cook, and is very imaginative. Anything he can play with to mimic something else (cooking, playing doctor, etc etc) he loves. His favorite shows are Thomas the Train and Caillou I believe.
Hope that helps!

YAY!!! I am so excited for you! If your little guy is as excited about Christmas as ours are..you are going to have a magical Christmas!
- what kind of bed? toddler bed? regular bed w/ rails? no rails? They are in toddler beds that have little rails and for the first few nights they did fall out since the rails are only about 18 inches long - but the beds are low to the ground. If you have a regular bed, that would be fine too - with rails. Most of the boys friends are in twins with rails- we just don't have room for 2 twins and they aren't ready for bunk beds. But they have slept in them on vacation and done fine and loved it!
- how much do your boys weigh? (is that too personal?? lol - i'm just making sure our car seat will be appropriate!) Not personal at all - you aren't asking for my weight! Gray weighs about 31lbs and Carter is 39lbs. So big difference. What carseat do you have? Most likely he won't be ready for a booster with seatbelt. Most have a minimum weight of 40lbs - but the kids need to understand that they need to sit still and not squirm. Gray wears a 2T pants (which are often too short in the length and too big in waist.) He wears a 3T shirt (whcih are ususally big.) Carter wears a size 4 pant (not 4T) and a 4T shirt.
- do they still use a stoller? Rarely. If we are going somewhere with a lot of walking (Disney) or there is going to be a good bit of walking and it'll be their nap time (a parade) they we'll do strollers. But for regular outings (mall, etc) no stroller. I need/want them to get excercise.
- sippy cup or regular cups? When they drink their morning milk in our bed, they have it in a sippy tumbler (Playtex Coolster Tumblers work great (no spill) and don't look like baby cups.) If we are sitting at the table, they have small plastic open top cups (from Ikea) and if we go to a restaurant, we'll do cups with lids/straws.
- how 'into' stuff are they? do we need to worry about putting the safety locks on cabinets, doors, ect? or are they pretty much over that stage? Depends on the kid. If there is stuff you really don't want him in, I'd put a lock on it. We still have a lock on our panty (a big piece of furniture that we keep boxed/canned food in) since we have found them scrounging around in there for candy/cookies/etc. It is just way too tempting. The cleaning supplies are definately still locked up. If you need ideas of specific locks, let me know.
- gates needed for stairs or not anymore? No. They do stairs fine (but they have had a lot of practice since we have a townhouse.)
- for dinner do they sit in a normal kitchen chair or a booster? sit in a normal chair at home and most of the time we still get high chairs in restaurants (which I don't think is the norm.) We are still really having to work on sitting still and eating during meals. If they are in a high chair, they will sit nicely, eat better, and we all have a better meal.
- favorite toys? tv shows? movies? Toys - train set, any truck/fire truck/helipcopter (the more noise the better - despite our desire to not have batteries in our house!), anything pirate (foam swords, dress up clothes, Little People pirate ship.) Puzzles (target has some good 24 piece wooden ones.), Candyland, and books (Richard Scarry books are a huge hit right now.) TV Shows - if you get Sprout (cable version of PBS kids shows you are good!) Caillou, Dragon Tails, Bernstain Bears, Wiggles are all on there. Hany Manny, Little Einsteins, and Mickey Mouse's Clubhouse on Disney channel are also good. Movies - they are just staring to get into Disney movies (Nemo, Cars (love Cars), Toy Story.) There are also Mighty Machine movies that you can rent (Netflix/Red Box) that are huge hits (they are about fire trucks, trains, police cars, construction vehicles, etc.)
Hope this helps. All kids are so different it is hard. The difference between Carter and Gray is night and day - but these are things that they both tend to enjoy. Let me know if you have more questions or want to call me to chat about preschool boys.
I am so excited for you!

it is always different when it is your child, in your home! Let me know if you need ideas for specific brands on things. I am a bit obsessive about kid stuff and have done a ton of research.
