When is the last time you really messed something up in the kitchen?
Mine was today. I was making those impossible to screw up 7 layer bars with condensed milk. They were supposed to bake for 20 minutes. I forgot about them, 65 minutes later they could be used to pave a driveway.
And dude, someone else jump in and ask a question!!! I waited till 11:20 hoping someone else would ask the daily question today... Help me out ladies
Re: 12-16 - kitchen disaster
Humm...I really haven't messed anything up too bad lately. Mostly because I've been too busy with school to do anything in the kitchen.
I can tell the story of my husband's funniest goof though. He's really been wonderful and taken over a lot of housework while I've been working on my Master's degree. He really has been absolutely wonderful. He loves to get creative in the kitchen or do dishes specially for me. Which is wonderful. However, one day he was making me fajitas and made a huge mistake. He knows that I love things spicy so he decided to grab some little peppers (not paying attention to the sign) from Bloom to spice up my set of fajitas. He just sliced them real quick and threw them on my plate.
Well he didn't tell me they were any type of hot pepper. He just said that he put some extra peppers on mine. I didn't really pay attention when I bit into it.
Well after five bites, I was in tears on the floor. Turns out, what I thought was a bell pepper (and what he thought was a pepperoncini) was actually a habanero...about 5 of them to be exact (I wound up eating 2 whole ones, seeds intact). He feels horrible about it, but I thought it was pretty damn funny in the end.
Um almost set the house on fire. I plead "New sleep deprived Mommy" on this one.
I made a casserole- something I've made a million times before. Put it in a glass dish and covered it and put it in the oven. Normally while dinner is cooking I'll head upstairs and either watch some TIVO or straighten up. Nicholas wasn't home (I had worked that day, so Pete was bringing him home). Instead of going upstairs, I cleaned up the sink straightened up downstairs. So I see this flicker in the oven. I open the oven and see flames in my oven and on my casserole. Crap! Oh did I mention that I covered the casserole with the PLASTIC lid that came with it (not glass lid or tinfoil). I panic and call my mom. I throw like all the flour I owned into the oven. I swear it look like it snowed in there. Took the flaming casserole out- yes it was still on fire. Finally put it outside on the patio and let it burn itself out.
Then I started crying because we had nothing for dinner and my oven was a mess and I was TIRED!!!!
Thank goodness I didn't go upstairs. Who knows what would have happened.
Over the summer I was cooking in our church's kitchen, which has a gas stove that I'm not used to. I was just making rice, and put the pot on the burner. I accidentally put the burner on high and forgot about it. When I checked on it, it was totally and completely burnt! I'm a good cook and rarely have a disaster, but that made me so mad!
