Who does not have children?

Just wanted to see how many of us on here do not have any children yet. We are talking and tracking, but for now it is just M, me and our 2 cats.

Re: Who does not have children?

  • Us.  We have tracked temps and OPK for 1.5 years.  We tried 7 times in 2009.  We are on a trying break - and restarting TTC in early 2010.

  • So, what do you all do in your spare time (when not working I mean)? It seems that since I have been out of school I have allot of spare time. M and I do not have any hobbys or anything that we really like to do other than go out with friends and relax togeather. I am finding that neither are agreeing with my hips! LOL

  • Just saw your second question about free time. Ha. I feel like we never have enough of it. We're in a new house, so a lot of our time these days is spent doing projects around the house. Other than that, our weekends are mostly spent cooking, cleaning, getting together with friends, going out on dates, etc. I will say though, after grad school ended, I remember feeling like I had so much free time on my hands and not knowing what to do with it all. Those feelings quickly subsided.

  • We've only got the one in the belly, but I feel like I can barely remember "free time" sometimes!

When we lived in Pittsburgh, I think we had much more.  We had shorter commutes and no family living nearby to visit.  I remember just hanging out at home a lot together, going to the movies, going on day trips.

Now, free time during the week is very limited.  Just about enough time to get home, cook dinner, eat, maybe a load of laundry/dishes, and watching a tv show on the couch before bed.  And the weekends seem to always be filled with errands - grocery shopping, Target runs, haircut, oil change, etc.  We also spend a day visiting my family once (sometimes twice) a month.

  • We don't have kids, and haven't decided yet whether we want to. We're loving being aunties at the moment.
  • We don't yet. We tried a couple cycles, then bought a house and are now waiting until after we settle in and the holidays are over before starting again.

As far as free time, we--or mostly I--never have enough. I'm in grad school, work part-time, have my own business (on the side right now) and a new house to work on. If you're interested in finding now things to do, maybe you can start with a list of things you enjoy and find ways to connect to them in your community.

  • We don't have kids. Will try in late 2010 or early/mid 2011. We don't know anything about it, really, and have bought books but haven't read them. :)

I'm two years out from law school and still enjoying my free time, since I had basically none for three years. We hang out with friends, take the dogs on walks, and go to the gym or run or bike outside a lot and do triathlons and 5Ks/10Ks/half-marathons, and I do some pro bono work here and there and she is very active in her local professional organization (she's in HR). Her family is 1500 miles away and most of my family is 3000 miles away. I know once we have kids and move to be near my parents I will long for this time, so I'm just trying to make the most of it :)

  • We don't have kids yet and it will be a few years before we start trying. We both are in school so alot of our time goes to studying and homework. When we have free time we go out to dinner, movies, and plays. We both like to travel so we try to do vacations often even if it's just weekend getaways.

  • We don't have children. We spend out time together just hanging out, going to movies, etc. We always try to do something differant each weekend. To keep things fun.

We have two puppies. One that we just got this weekend. They are Leonardo and Raphael. Julie and I have no plans for children in the future, and we are both waivering if we really want children. I'm sure we will MUCH later down in the road.

However, now we just enjoy being with ourselves and our pups!

  • no kids yet. hopefully 2010.

we have long commutes and I am in grad school on top of work, so time is limited. we spend most of the weekend with the dog, house stuff and errands. and the occassional social event. i also play for a sports team and c coached another, and i train for races (eg, half marathons). i am so busy i can't breathe to be honest.

  • Pre kids we were pretty involved in DC Metro Partners. It is an organization for GLBT couples in the DC area. I was president for 2 years and was on the board for 3. We went to the monthly socials, happy hours, etc and met some great friends who we socialized (and still do) outside of event functions. Most of the couples are men - but very welcoming and fun.

We don't do things any more with them since the events aren't really kid friendly  - although we did go to a pool party this summer and while the people that were there were new to us - they were really nice.

Aside from that - either one or both of us have been in school the entire time we've been together (9+ years) so that has taken up way too much time.  And then the normal things like errands, dinner, movies, etc.

It is funny - at the time, I felt like we had very little free time - now I wonder what the heck I was thinking. :P

  • No kids here either. We definitely want kids, but the time isn't right for us yet. Our timeframe is looking like 3-4 years.

As for spare time, I have a lot of hobbies. We also find a lot of things to do with each other, like going on day trips during the weekends to explore new things. We're actually short some spare time... DP will likely only work part time when we have kids.

  • Thanks everyone for sharing. The board is a little slow and I think I got to know a little about some of you.
