Ace of Cakes fans? Cooking/Baking fans?

I just got to meet Duff Goldman and get a picture/autograph!!! I'm so excited, I must tell the world! lol

Who else here is a big baking nut? Over the last year, I've really gotten into it - I wasn't the best cook, so I started out baking and then have gradually improved my cooking over the last several months and really enjoy myself with both. Thinking of taking some classes in the new year, but has anyone else been to any culinary classes (not professional)? Was it good or kind of useless?

Re: Ace of Cakes fans? Cooking/Baking fans?

  • i love cooking! my husband and i have taken classes at the chopping block and had a wonderful time. we still use the recipes that we learned. whats your favorite thing to bake?
  • very cool - i think we will have to look into that then!

My favorite things to bake are cupcakes! I'm slowly building a good decorating kit and figuring out how to make them better and better. I like coming up with my own creations flavor-wise and then finding fun ways to decorate them accordingly hehe

How about you - do you prefer to cook or bake? What's your favorite thing?

  • Duff was at my friend's work the other day signing books and stuff! AWESOME!!!

  • I actually love watching Ace of Cakes and I also sometimes watch Cake Boss (but its a little too fake/stereotypical for my tastes). I never miss the Food Network or TLC Cake off challenges. I LOVE THOSE! :) It is cool to see a talent that both looks and (hopefully) tastes good.

I actually have passed all 3 levels of Wilton Cake Decorating lessons and I have all of the tips and supplies and used to do tiered cakes when I was a youth in 4-H, but its really a messy and time-consuming hobby so I have not really baked in like a year.

I made these cupcakes and cupcake flags the last time I baked for my husband's 30th birthday:

  • oh, i LOVE cupcakes! what is your specialty cupcake? i do more cooking than baking (my favorites are italian and thai), which is probably better for my waistline :)
  • LOL Definitely better for the waistline! Oh man...I need to get back on my diet - the holidays ruined that!
I keep getting asked to make my orange cream soda cupcakes...unfortunately I hate the taste and smell of orange flavored sweets LOL so I can't bring myself to make them lately... but my favorites are buttermilk cupcakes in a raspberry sauce ... yum!
