If you have a Davis Homes built home, what do you think of the whole "ceasing operations" news that surfaced yesterday?
We knew it was coming since we had heard from several of their subcontractors that they weren't being paid,Davis was having a hard time, etc. We were just really hoping it wouldn't be for awhile more as both us and my Mom have closed on new homes with them in the last 90 days. We were really hoping to get some minor things fixed before they went under. Now it's a whole convoluted mess as to who is going to do the work, etc. Sure 2-10 warranty will review what needs done, but you have to pay a $250 deductible per claim submitted. If Davis had done the work, obviously it would have all been free. We are looking into hiring an attorney to sort out their contracted obligations, etc. It is also a worry that any land they had left to develop will now go up for other builders to purchase and come into these communities and build their style of home. It also means that anyone who purchased a particular lot based on what the future development would be around them, are probably looking at a whole different plan now with new builders coming in. Granted, I probably would not have done anything different had we known a year ago today when we signed our contract to build. We love our home, love our small community, love our lot, love everything about it. Just sad to see them close.
Anyone else want to chime in on their situation?
Re: Davis Homeowner's
We have a Davis home (which we would NEVER recommend them as builders knowing what we know now...) and FEMA made us aware that our home was built in a flood plane (sp? sorry) which is completely ILLEGAL in this day and age...so they currently pay our flood insurance because we raised hell about it. We are not surprised by any means about their current issues. We saw this coming, honestly. But we are concerned for our flood insurance and we will raise some hell if we end up stuck with it as time goes on. We are trying to be re-assessed to show that we have taken the appropriate steps to not need flood insurance anymore, but they seem to be dragging their feet (surprise surprise gov't agency).
PS: Our home was a spec home...and apparently there was a fire at the front of the house while it was being built - some insulation caught on fire. They made their repairs but NEVER put in more insulation into the 2nd front bedroom in the attic. We had to call them and deal with the bullshiit of it being blown in after we had already moved in. We were NEVER told (aka they never disclosed) that this incident ever happened. They just covered it up and we found out from our neighbors that took pictures of the damage.
Basically, beware of Davis. They paid us off for the high gas bill (after 5 or 6 steaming phone calls from DH) we had due to the lack of insulation so we wouldn't take it any further. So again, not surprised by their current status. Quality is not a good way to define Davis by any means.
