WOW, I see some of these elaborate spreads and just feel like my menu for an upcoming shower is....wimpy!
I have a friend co-hosting, This is Jan 2nd and a brunch.
-croissant breakfast bake (one with ham, and another veggie only)
-roasted potatoes
- coffee cake
- fruit kabobs w/ chocolate
-coffee
- other drink
We figured with it being right after the holidays being over most people would be sick of food. Do you think this sounds ok or do i need something else?
The favor is chocolate covered pretzel rods.
Re: shower menu
What exactly is a croissant breakfast bake?
I'm not sure how many people you're having, but it looks a little skimpy to me. I'm not saying that you need a waffle station or anything like that, but I do think that you need more protein. Maybe a quiche, mini crabcakes or, my personal favorite, a build your own shrimp and grits area. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of sweets, so having a few more savory items would balance out the cake and fruit.
The croissant thing is a breakfast casserole. It has croissants, egg, cheese & whatever veggies or meat you want. So I'd do one with ham, bell peppers, tomaotes (something like that) and another with only veggies (asparagus, tomatoes).
So knowing this, what else would you suggest now? Thanks!
I agree w/ the pp, it does seem a little sparse. I would throw in a protien (maybe homemade chicken or turkey sausage patties or sweet and spicy bacon), another side type item (a bagel platter with cream cheese and smoked salmon or I love the pp's idea of shrimp and grits), and a large green salad or else some sort of roasted vegetable.
I would forego the quiche, but I would still do either crabcakes or a shrimp and grits station since neither of those involve eggs.
I think your menu is fine. More than enough food - it is a shower, you are feeding your guests, it is not a full on restaurant buffet!
No crabcakes or shrimp n grits. The mom-to-be hates seafood and would kill me for serving it at her shower LOL.
How about something along the lines of these caramel bacon bites?
http://www.rachaelraymag.com/Recipes/rachael-ray-magazine-recipe-index/breakfast-brunch-recipes/Caramel-Bacon-Bites a little sweet, spicy & protien?
I'll already have a protein the casserole. Overall, i agree that it's enough food. It's really a full meal but would like to add on some sort of side. And I guess this really is more of a breakfast than brunch at this point.
Any other ideas out there? Thanks!
Is there a brie w/ cracker thing anyone thinks might go?
