My BFF is coming home for the holiday and has recently become engaged (she lives 12 hours away). Her mother and I will be throwing an engagement party for her. Any tips, tricks, dos, don'ts? Do you do favors for the guests? Do you do themes? I've never been to or had an engagement party, so I know nothing in this department.THANKS!!
Re: Engagement party help
Most engagement parties I've been to have just been simple gatherings.
We didn't have any decorations or favors, just food and drinks.
How many people are you expecting?
All the engagement parties I have been to have been regular cocktail-style parties. I would serve h'ors d'oeuvres and drinks (beer, wine, champagne, maybe a signature martini) and let people just mingle and congratulate the couple.
This.
No favors, no themes, no games.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
Other than that, just like the other posters have said. I've only been to 1 e-party that the couple won from a bar.
The only theme-like thing that I would suggest is color(s). Maybe 1 or 2 vases with inexpensive flowers. Say you get white flowers, so go with white cups, white napkins, white plates, etc. Nothing fancy, but just to help unify the look.
For my e-party, the hosts went with black and red. No theme related banners or things were used. But the tablecloths happened to be black and there were some red roses in small vases on the tables. Also, our cake was chocolate with strawberries on top, so it "matched." See what I mean? No theme, but there was continuity.
Thanks ladies, for all your help. I am glad that it is MUCH more simple than I had imagined! whew!
Happy holidays!
