WTF?! Is our tree confusing the cats??

Cali just started scratching at the tree skirt and I looked over at her to yell and tell her to stop... Then she gets in her pee stance, I tell M there's no way she's going to pee right now, no way. She gets up and walks away, I look and she fvcking peed!! Is the tree confusing them you think? Have any of you with cats had this problem before? I have to get a new tree skirt now, M threw ours away before I had the chance to get it from him to wash. But now I'm second guessing and thinking maybe I shouldn't replace it just yet... Ugh these darn cats!!

Re: WTF?! Is our tree confusing the cats??

  • How old is Cali?  I have had this issue with kittens before but usually by the time they are full grown cats my experience is that they know the difference between the tree, the litterbox, and going outside.

  • Yes, I have had problems with my cats using the tree skirt as a peeing place. Apparently something in the smell makes them think they should.
  • When Dixie was a kitten yes I used to have an issue with her peeing on the tree skirt.  Now that she's older she knows better, she just lays under it  (or trys to) now.
  • Ummmmmmmmmmm I came home yesterday and our cat Tuki had pissed on a PLATE on the counter!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to ring his furry neck! I am so done with him. Any chance he gets he pisses on Ladmo's bed.

He was a farel cat, was found on the streets at like 3-4 weeks old, DH says they arent born with feral instincts, I think they are. He has always peed on random stuf, but now its happening more and more.

  • Cali is 11mos old... We've had her for 3mos now (and she's indoor only) and haven't had a problem until last night. After I posted last night, I went to see where she ran off to and she was in her litter box! She is a pill! We've had our tree for almost 3wks now and usually she and Zeek just lay under it. I just don't get it!

And Agent, he peed on your plate?! I would have lost it! I wonder what's making T do it more now. Hopefully he gets better/stops soon!

WHAAAAT?! Gross!!! Is he fixed? Sometimes even neutering doesn't solve male cats' peeing issues. He needs to be an outside cat, that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!

My cats have never peed on the tree skirt (which is really a tablecloth just draped around), but a few times when the litterbox was dirty, Gossamer got snooty and peed on anything soft, like our comforter, because someone left the bedroom door open!

I am at my wits end. I would have tossed him outside loooong ago. But DH wont let me. He had indoor/outdoor cats growing up and they got ina bunch of fights and blah blah and so he doesnt want tuki to get hurt...

BUT I think he is almost to his wits end. So when that time comes, tuki goes outside
