For Those Who Haven't Honeymooned Yet...
Are you going to take one in 2010? Where are you considering going? Have you made firm plans yet? Tell me everything!
We took our family vacay to Hilton Head after the wedding, but I am hoping the kids will be at an age where we can leave them for a few days this year. Need suggestions/ideas/input.
I would LOVE to hop over to Europe for 5 days or so but I think I would die from anxiety being that far from them if something were to go wrong. So I'd like to keep it Caribbean/North America.
Let's hear your delayed honeymoon plans!!?
Re: For Those Who Haven't Honeymooned Yet...
We went on a "mini-moon" to the Boundary Waters and it was horrible. Last time we were at the boundary waters the bugs were good except for nighttime and it was sunny. When we went for our mini-moon the bugs were soooo bad at all of the portages and campsites and it rained the whole time! Hopefully next time we go it will be better again.
We were planning on going on a honeymoon in 2010, but that might get delayed. I am just applying for jobs now and hopefully I will find something.
When we go though, we had narrowed it down to Ireland or New Zealand (but my brother just went to those places and I want to go somewhere he hasn't). So now we are thinking Australia or Iceland.
A long time ago we decided that we'd each get to pick one "dream" place and do a blowout honeymoon. Alex decided he wanted to go on safari at the Singita Reserve, Kruger Park in South Africa. I chose to plop myself on the beach at the One&Only Reethi Rah (the sister resort of the one we got married at) in the Maldives, so that is what we're doing. Hey, it is supposed to be "once in a lifetime," right?
The mister has started planning for March, but I want to push it back to June. Why? Because I'm insane and I've decided I want to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro on my HM while we're in Africa. The only two months that are favorable to this insanity are June and January, so I'm pleading with him to wait until June, climb the mountain, then reward ourselves with this crazy HM. Alex wants to go in March and skip this mountain climbing craziness. He thinks I'm nuts about the Kilimanjaro thing-- this coming from a man who opts to run the NYC marathon every year. We'll see who wins...
I'm climbing that mountain with or without him.
I survived the RoLex wedding and all I got was this lousy husband.
One&Only Palmilla - Los Cabos, Mexico
I highly recommend this. If you do it, make sure the airport you're flying from has a direct flight into Aspen. If it doesn't, go to Vail instead (there are more direct flights). I cannot tell you how many times in the past ten years we have lost days of our vacation because they oversold our flight or we got bumped because of weather on the Denver-Aspen leg of the trip. Making that 4+ hour drive to Aspen is a snowstorm ever again? No thanks.
Just my two cents

One&Only Palmilla - Los Cabos, Mexico
well, i'm actually crashing rose's honeymoon in africa - does that count?
we haven't taken ours yet, but are planning on going in March. Where? TBD. Originally we were planning on going to the One and Only Palmilla in Cabo. However, we bought a super nice house right after the wedding and DH is looking at putting a pool in the backyard...which is around $50k to do it the way we want. So, I feel bad about asking him to spend the money to head to the Palmilla.
He does, however, have billions of Marriott points so we could go to any Marriott or Ritz Carlton and stay for free. My picks so far are Puerta Vallarta or the RC Abama in Gu?a de Isora, Tenerife Spain.
I always vote for St. Thomas, USVI, though. That's where we got married and it's awesome. My husband used to live there and I've been going there for vacation with my family for 20 years. You don't need a passport to get there, it's an easy flight, and it's gorgeous.
Stop copying me Jones. Palmilla and Africa-- whats next, you're stealing my baby names?
Seriously, you're not crashing Africa because I invited you. You and I are staying here and Alpal can frolic with the lions.
BUT only if you climb Kilimanjaro with me. Otherwise, no deal.

One&Only Palmilla - Los Cabos, Mexico
The Palmilla was the source of our instantaneous friendship on the DW board, so shut it. And yes, I'm getting pregnant with twin girls and naming them Carrington and Eloise.
And I'm all over Mt. Kilimanjaro as long as we pack a flask.
And get off the nest and start working on your project - my baby nursery.
Ditto this, but replace San Diego with NYC...

A. I mean, I have pretty fantastic taste. Duh.
B. B!tch I'll shiv you if you take those names. For cereal.
C. Do I travel anywhere without a flask? I think not. But you're going to have to learn to love Tanqueray if you're crashing my honeymoon.
D. You're a slave driver. ::runs off to plan the perfect nursery for baby Jones::

Ditto the USVI - That's where B and I honeymooned, and it was awesome. Plus, if you like to check out different places, you can island hop. I was really glad we didn't end up staying on St. Thomas the whole time because there was a lot to do over on St. John and St. Croix, too!
Also, ya know, there's always Boston
And visiting me, Shag and Dobs. Lots to do, lots of sports, lots of bars/clubs... And 3 hours from Florida, so its a win/win lol
Samantha - Tenerife is awesome. I went there for a couple days when I was going to school in Madrid.
And as for St. Thomas, a little part of me will always live there. My best friend from college grew up on the island and I've been lucky enough to go there 10ish times over the past 7 or so years. I absolutely love everything about that place. It feels like home to me when I am there. My life long goal is to buy the Carribean Saloon (right across from Duffy's (I saw you had your welcome dinner there), and just live on the island for the rest of my life.

Good to know! The RC there looks sooooo gorgeous.
I love that you love st. thomas. i feel the same way you do. Duffy's is one of my favorite places. Kyle lived in Beverly Hills right before you get to the Marriott and worked at the Happy Buzzard, which is now something else - fat buddha or something? - right downtown.
Have you eaten at the Burrito Bay Deli right there by the Saloon across from Duffy's? Best. Burritos. EVER.
I am one of the few people that despises Duffy's. It's a bar in a parking lot. I just don't get it. I mean, I have fun when I go there, but I just hate the concept of the place.
I've eaten at Burrito Bay more times than I can count. We usually charter a boat to take us to all the other islands in the area when we go there that takes off right in the harbor directly behind burrito bay. We usually call the night before and have them have our order ready to pick up in the morning. My BFF's parents live in a house that overlooks Meaghan's Bay on the other side of the island. I think that bar is called the Fat Turtle or something. I can't remember.
But only because its my maiden name, right?

absolutely.
LOL. The first time I saw Duffy's, that was my reaction. I was kind of, what the....? but, I really like their food. but i can't drink too much there bc their bathroom? unacceptable. so disgusting.
That's where we rent our boats, too - from the Nauti Nymph behind Burrito Bay. But, Kyle drives rather than chartering. Fat Turtle is in Yacht Haven Grande - this place is now called the Big Kahuna. I just remembered.
BTW - I'm assuming you've been to Lindquist Beach? Hands down, my most favorite beach I've ever been to - gorgeous!
Holy shiittttt, you know where Lindquist is?!?!?!?!? I just went there for my first time like 3 years ago. I can't believe we hadn't gone there sooner. It's really hard to get to and we never had anyone with a high enough suspention on their car to get us down the ridiculous path / road to get there. LOVE IT!! I have the most beautiful picture I've ever taken sitting under a palm tree on that beach.
Ahhhh, you rent from Mathias too!! That's where we get our boats. We have had a couple different captains throughout the years (Mike, we've had a frenchy guy, whose name escapes me right now, but he was awesome).
Ah yea, that's the place. When I first started going there, Yacht Haven wasn't even there. That place is really nice though.
Tell me you've been to Indigo (it's a restaurant). My FAVVVVV
Yup! LOVE Lindquist. love it. The first time Kyle took me there I felt like I was in another world. Its so hidden!
Yeah, Yacht Haven was just built like 2 or 3 years ago, I think. We first started going when I was 7 - and that place has change so much over the years.
I love Indigo! And, I love Craig and Sally's, Herve and Oceana.
Yea, I only started going there freshman year in college, so it hasn't been too long. I don't know Craig and Sally's I don't think.
Have you been to A Room with a View. That place is awesome.
My friend;s parents who live there are best friends with the people that own Roberts too, which is a sweet hookup when we go there.
This is taking me down memory lane. Now I'm sitting at my desk looking at all of our pictures from past trips there! I need to go back. Like, now.
I've not been to A Room with a View. I'll have to check it out. I almost forgot - Havana Blue. My favorite. That's where we had our reception, but it's probably one of my favorite restaurants of all time.
My husband's picture on FB is from our night spent at the Caribbean Saloon and Molly Malones
Whoops-sorry for posting this then falling asleep with the kiddos!! LOL. They are under the weather so we are doing a lot of sleeping today
I love to hear about all of your travels! Ro, that trip is just insane-sounding. And you definitely have to climb Killamanjaro. How sick would that be? A guy from DH's work wants to do that in 2010, maybe you could be climbing buddies while Alex frolics with lions-LMAO!!
Shag, StJoes and Sam--I also love St. Thomas. I should have added we've been there before so we want to try something new. Remember Sam--we were going to have our reception at Havana Blue too? Love it there. One of DH's best friends is a yacht captain so we've been lucky to meet up with them in the Caribbean a few times. They are actually in St. Thomas right now and just drove over to St. John last night for Happy Hour
They have a rough life.
Chrissy, St. Joes and Ro--I absolutely LOVE the places you live. Cali is probably my favorite state ever. My aunt lived in Los Gatos for years and I went to kindergarten outside of Edwards AF Base. Nothing can compare to NYC and I really, really like Boston a lot. Even though it was 40 degrees at night in July, which is just unnatural!!
It's a?Great city. So yeah--maybe we can do a few good weekend trips in the US, thanks for the invites! It would be seriously cool to meet you all in person.
Nanner--your camping HM sounds appalling. I vote Australia next for you!!?
This HM is our last hoorah before getting serious about saving for a bigger apartment and babies. While Alex is pumped about the "lions and tigers and bears," I'm pretty freaking pumped about this...
I've decided that 2010 is the year of 'Go Big or Go Home.' I plan on climbing Kilimanjaro, heli-skiing and possibly training for the NYC marathon.

One&Only Palmilla - Los Cabos, Mexico
Eh, if you're in moderately decent shape, I say just show up and do it. Training for a marathon takes soooooo much time. Mike and I ran a marathon together a few weeks before the wedding, and neither of us seriously trained for it. It hurt for a few days after, but waaaaay better than training for months ahead of time. If it's just a one time to cross it off your life-list, then that's my advice. Unless, of course, running is not your strong suit, and in that case I'd say definitely prepare. 26 miles is long.
Yeah, I'm in decent shape, but my joints are total crap. I ruined them over the course of 15 years of competitive gymnastics, so I'm worried about the ramifications of not doing a full training regement.
Plus, Alex is a maniac. He's done three NYC marathons so far, and now he is addicted. He trains and works 100+ hours a week. This year he ran it in less than 3:30, so if I have any hope of even running the first part with him, I'll have to get my butt in gear.
How was it? Which one did you run?
I survived the RoLex wedding and all I got was this lousy husband.
One&Only Palmilla - Los Cabos, Mexico
It was a lot of fun. Mike and I ran the San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon at the end of May. It was a fun thing for us to do together right before the wedding. He's in incredible shape, but I'm a much better distance runner than he is. Eventually, I had to leave him behind. It's the one time I'll ever kick his a$$, athletically, so I have to bask in the glory. Actually, if it weren't for him slowing me down, I would have been at least 30 min. faster. Nope, I'm not one to gloat at all.
