I need a substantial Tv stand/furniture.  A tv console is what we're looking for in a dark wood.  It needs to be at least 2.5 feet tall (30'') because I don't like our TV low.  I'd also like it to be at least 4.5 feet long to balance out the massive television DH is about to buy now that he got the job.

I've also browsed Z gallerie's website and didn't find anything that struck me.

If you don't have time to shop for me - what furniture stores would you recommend? 

I don't want Target style... because I'm wanting something to last us a long time.  Key words:  Traditional style, dark wood, tall, long, and skinny.

Any advice?  Where to shop?

Check out JCPenny--I think they're having a big sale right now.  (They're on my list, too; I'm looking for a long & skinny tv stand as well.) 

Have you checked out West Elm?  I think they're a little more on the contemporary side, but you might find something there.

I'd try out Ikea and then traditional furniture stores like Lacks, Oak Express (in Furniture Row), Room Store and Rooms to Go.  Those are all the places DH and I looked when we needed one. We ended up going with Ikea, but we weren't necessarily looking for something with the longevity you are.

This. Look in the bedroom section because now bedroom sets are coming with media cabinets. IL's just bought one a Lack's and it's definitely tall. Not really long, but tall.

I think Pottery Barn has a few that are higher/wider.

You really don't want a TV to be too high. It distorts the way the screen is viewed and actually dimishes the quality of the picture because it's designed to be viewed straight on. Above a fireplace is probably the best example of the worst place to put a TV. "The right height of your TV is having the center of the TV eye-level with your seated position or just a little higher."  I was totally skeptical of this and believe me it's a PITA when you have a toddler who can touch the screen! But it really does make for more comfortable viewing and higher quality too.

Dillards and Lacks had some great options when we were looking.  Also Ballard Designs has a lot of traditional looking items.
