Brookfield Zoo or Lincoln Park Zoo?

I am bringing my DS home to see Grandma and Grandpa. We are taking a day and going to the zoo, but I don't know which one i want to go to. What do you think?

Re: Brookfield Zoo or Lincoln Park Zoo?

  • Lincoln Park is free, but smaller. They have a nice lagoon with paddle boats that you can rent for 30 minutes or more. It's a nice trip for an afternoon or morning, and you can go anytime. Parking is free (I believe), but you can also get there from the bus.

Brookfield is larger, and costs to get in, but there's more to do and see. There's a dolphin show, a butterfly garden, and a tram around the zoo (but all those cost extra to get in). There's an interesting wolf exhibit, underwater viewing for the sea lions and the dolphins, and indoor and outdoor exhibits. I believe most nights the zoo is closed by 6:00. It's my favorite of the two. IMO there's plenty to see and do and it's easy to be entertained. It's easy to spend the whole day there. You can also bring in a picnic basket and have lunch on the lawns--you don't have to buy food there. However, it can be expensive if you do everything and buy lunch there. It also costs to park--$8.

  • definitely lincoln park.  It doesn't have as much as Brookfield but, Brookfield is a rip off.  Once you pay to get in, you have to pay for almost everything else.  Lincoln park has so much around it, the view, the park, the beach, it's well worth it, and it's free!

  • If you are willing to spend the money, I would go to the Brookfield Zoo.  Like yellowroses said, it can be pricey but there are way more animals and interesting exhibits.  There is even an interactive play building for kids where they can paint their face like an animal, become a zookeeper, dress up like a vet and "cure" fake animals using the equipment, etc.  Also, I would definitely pack a picnic lunch to try and cut costs, although they do have some really good restaurants now.

Whichever you decide, have fun!  They both have their own advantages and are worth the trip.

  • Brookfield Zoo definately, I am sorry but I really don't like Lincoln Park--- I have not been there in 5 years but I really disliked the small spaces for the animals, and well parking in my opinion is a *** there.  Yes Brookfield Zoo can be expensive, but you don't have to do everything.  Brookfield has an awesome kids area and a beautiful butterfly garden.

  • Thanks everyone! I think we will be going to Brookfield. I found out my SIL is a member. Only 12 more days to my visit home!
  • I think BF Zoo is better overall, but the LP Zoo has an AMAZING gorilla exhibit.  When deciding which one to go to, I usually choose LP Zoo based on that alone.  Those Silverbacks are SOOO entertaining!
