I'm having a hard time shopping for my niece. She's 12 and...struggling between one side of the family that encourages uber-juvenile stuff (Hannah Montana, Disney EVERYTHING, etc. It's like they want her to act like a 6 year old forever.) and the other side (her dad and grandma) tends to dress her in things a 24 year old would wear to a club. Because they think it's cute. Uh yeah, that's a no go. I'm sure she's having an identity crisis.
So I have no idea what to get her. I asked her for a list and she said "uh, i dunno."
Halp! Ideas?

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
A frock
Otherwise, I'd go with a gc to borders (or whatever is in her area) so she can pick out any book she wants, or expanding it to a gc to the mall, and offering to take her, and treat her to mall chinese food (IHO WifeZ)
I'd give her something grown-up and classic. I like the scarf & gloves idea - it's easy to find really cute stuff.
Does she have any hobbies?
Hm...I do like the scarf idea. Maybe a cute outfit and a scarf to go with it. I'm trying to get her into fashion beyond what her parents are pushing on her.
No hobbies that I know of, but again, everything she does is pretty much chosen for her. Not her actual passions. They make her take ballet - she hates it. They make her play basketball on the church team - she HATES it. And everything is focused around church, which takes up a ton of her time.
I just a friendly gal looking for options.
try a store like Aeropostale - they have cute stuff for girls middle school - college aged.
