Anyone use mint.com?

I'd been hearing about it for a while now and it was a clicky link in something else i was reading earlier today so i checked it out. I like it and think DH and i should use it!! But DH is a bit more paranoid since he's gone thru some identity theft/credit card charges stuff. (i've gone thru credit charges that weren't mine too, but no one has opened a card in my name like they did with DH) He doesn't trust putting in our account numbers. But we have Life Lock so i feel 100x safer! And mint.com has been getting rave reviews...

DH and i need to get our finances in order so we can get out of debt and start saving money! And we need to stick to a budget!

TIA!

Re: Anyone use mint.com?

  • I love love love mint.com! I really do.

pros: all of your finances/accounts are gathered into one place so you don't have to visit 12 different sites to check on all your accounts/balances. you can create custom budgets, custom categories for certain types of spending. review spending/income by month, year, category. I could go on and on.

cons: if you check your checking account daily - mint.com won't show the 'pending' items, only things that have finally gone through, so mint.com would be about a day behind. but....kind of a minor thing.

I really feel like it's very safe and secure. I know I read up a lot about them before using it. Plus you can set it up to get emails or text messages if you have spending over a certain amount or unusual spending which could be even more helpful in catching accidental charges, etc. I know my DH uses the email/text feature and its great for him. Plus, mint.com is so pretty to look at - design wise its so much better than quicken. It makes sense for the financially challenged and is easy to use.

  • We use it too, and we like it a lot. Well, DH is the one who does most of it, but it's so seriously great! We have that email notification too for "weird" transactions, so that if something seems off, we can easily check it out and make sure they were our charges. It gives you nice break-downs by categories. And the budget thing is great, it really helps.
