Pediatrician recommendations

My husband and I are looking for a pediatrician. Somewhere around the Overland Park area- we live in Prairie Village.

 Thank you!

Re: Pediatrician recommendations

  • We use Pediatric Partners, outside Overland Park Regional.  There are 4 pediatricians in the parctice, we see Dr. Mellick, who is a mom of 4 girls, and is awesome!  My only complaint has been sometimes when we have appointments, it takes FOREVER to actually see the dr.  Other than that they are great.  Their website is www.doc4kidz.com

  • I'm new to posting on the nest, but have lurked for a few years (I know that sounds kind of creapy!).  Anyway, I finally decided it's time to get involved on the board, especially since it's been so slow lately.  Your question gives me the perfect opportunity to jump right in, as we go to Dr. Hostetler at Village Pediatrics in Prairie Village.  She is awesome and she's right in your neighborhood!  Dr. Slaymaker is there, too and he is good, too.  They have several nurse practitioners and they also have morning, evening and Saturday urgent care hours.  I work at Children's Mercy Hospital and they (Dr. Hostetler and Dr. Slaymaker)  both did their residencies here years ago and were great then, as well.  I drive all the way from western Shawnee just to go to them.  Hope this helps!  Their phone number is 913-642-2100 and their website is www.village-pediatrics.com.
  • Thank you so much ladies! This helps me get started!
  • We haven't really "used" him yet but we chose Dr. Slaymaker at Village Pediatrics after doing our interviews with pediatricians.  He seemed very confident and we know our son will be in good hands with not only that doctor but every doctor in the practice.

  • We go to Dr. Hostetler at Village Pediatrics.
  • We take our kiddos to Dr. Mellick also.  We've seen everyone at various times, but she is by far our favorite and glad we chose her.  Moving to KC we didn't have any info to go off of, but after a little bit of internet research, she was the perfect fit for us.

  • Thank you ladies! What kind of questions did you guys ask when you interviewed them?
  • We also see Dr. Slaymaker at Village Pediatrics and have seen Hostetler occasionally as well.

We asked lots of questions about vaccines. Dr. Slaymaker is very open to handling them in whatever way makes you comfortable. We asked about his procedure at the hospital when the baby arrived. We basically tried to get a feeling for whether or not he would be open to lots of questions during visits, would be patient with us, and would help us navigate the waters of holistic vs. medical treatments. He's very laid back and we've been very happy with him so far.
