ps i met my new little friend last week she is so sweet!  she has a submucous cleft, and mom wants to get it repaired at Shriners, do you think I should encourage her to also explore childrens?  Shriners in springfield is significantly more convenient.  What should I do??

Re: laura

  • I have talked with one other family who went to Shriners in Springfield (complete lip and palate clefting) and that child did very well, so far be it from me to judge if another family wants to go that route, KWIM?  It wasn't the right choice for my family and my kids, but for someone else (especially with a different degree of clefting and closer geography-wise to Springfield) it might be fine for them.

Free care IS available at Children's as well......and I do know a couple of cleft families that receive it.  You do have to be very low income to qualify for it, though.  I'm talking VERY low income, though.

Half kiddingly, I have wondered aloud to DH if quitting his job and going that route might have served US better, LOL!  Of course not, obviously!

Pass along good luck wishes to that family!
