BR: For those hoping for an unmedicated birth
There's quite a few things you can do for pain management. I didn't use this during Maya's birth but I'm pretty sure it would have taken the edge off beautifully:
Mama Tens Machine: http://www.mamatens.com.au/
Hopefully the machines are available in the US and Canada. I have heard SO many good things about them from women who have laboured without drugs!
Re: BR: For those hoping for an unmedicated birth
Yes, our doula told us about this. I used a TENS machine to rehab my knee and it really works for pain management.
I am also planning on using accupuncture during labor.

Ask your doula if the Mama Tens is available (instead of the regular physio one). I tried finding US websites that hire it out but couldn't find any but it sounds like it's available there, which is great!
Accupuncture during labour? Is this in the first stage, second? Is the practioner coming to your house? I've never heard of it during labour, that's why I'm curious!
We haven't been able to find rentals TENS machines for labor. As for the accupunture...when I am in the first stage of labor I will have these pins inserted into certain places on my ear and they'll be attached to Electro-stimulation machine. It is said to help manage the pain of labor. The practitioner, who is a colleague of my mother's, will come to the house to administer the treatment.
