Moving recap

- Friday night, I got all the electronics packed, including the DVD player, Wii, TV antenna, etc. I told myself that I could just goof around online since the TV was unhooked. Once I got all the stuff packed, taped, and stacked in the corner, I flipped on my laptop. And found that our internet provider had already switched off our service. Even though I requested it to be effective Monday. Asssholes.

- MIL, sFIL, Little Bro, and LB's girlfriend came down Saturday and we moved all the boxed items into storage. They were a huge help. LB's girlfriend had a couple more stupid comments that were very side-eye worthy. I'll do those in a separate post.

- FIL recommended the movers. Said they'd have at least three guys with two trucks. Well, three guys showed up Sunday, but they only had one truck, and it was only a 12-footer.

- One of the guys was the owner's special needs son who he ordered just to stay out of the way the entire time. I'm sorry, but he didn't count as the third guy when all he did was watch them work.

- The owner stood around and talked. ALL. DAY. At one point, I even heard him telling FIL about how he was this one dude who stood around and never actually helped his crew. I wanted to pull my hair out at that point and tell him that he must've been looking in a mirror.

- After we got the first load in the truck, the owner couldn't find his damn keys. We had to wait for someone to bring him his extra set. I was LIVID. He oh-so-graciously knocked half an hour off the bill.

- All told, it took them 4.5 hours to move stuff that should've only taken a couple hours. I was *so* pissed off. We could've just rented a UHaul and done it ourselves for half the price. When I told H last night, he was pissed, too, and said he was going to call his dad and let him know how ripped-off we felt. Had I known that three guys and two trucks was actually going to be two guys in one truck, I would've said no way.

- Once we got the house cleaned, I managed to cram everything I needed for day-to-day life into my car and drove up to MIL's. It was an exhausting day, but I was happy to see my Tobes (who MIL had taken the night before so he wouldn't be escaping or in the way). But gawddamn I'm tired today.

Re: Moving recap

  • Grrr.  FIL seemed okay with the fact that douchetard idiot owner was just lounging around?  That's crazy.

Glad to hear you're moved though.

  • At least it's all done now. Was this idiot just some dude with a truck or was he part of a company?

  • That sounds emotionally and physically exhausting.  I'm glad you survived.

Something similar happened when we moved - - we paid for 3 guys, but one of them was just coming back to work from a back injury and was told not to do very much lifting.   If the other 2 hadn't busted their asses to get us moved in the amount of time we were willing to pay for, there would've been trouble.

  • Good job Mrs. Stinky.  Does this mean you'll be getting a "I pushed all of those damn boxes" push present this year?

  • This dude was the owner! And he was from far southern Illinois, had Mountain Dew Mouth, and you could only understand maybe every fourth word that came out of it. He was kissing FIL's asss the entire time (barely said two words to me), so FIL was blind to the douchebaggery.

But yes, it's done. I'm thankful for that.

  • You could always complain about his lack of professionalism on websites (Yelp, yahoo, whatever) not that that helps.

Look on the bright side: Maybe he'll get giant kidney stones from all that Mt. Dew and spend an entire night in the bathroom trying to pass it to no avail.

  • Moving is the worst.  But hopefully you ware through the most painful part.  Unpacking is always more fun.  Does your H's employer find housing for you in the new city?  Or have you already found a place?

I just a friendly gal looking for options.

  • They won't help us at all. We're planning on staying in a hotel for a few days when we get there, and do some househunting then. We have no idea where we want to live, so the only thing we can do is wait until we get there and get a feel for the place. Thankfully, they'll move all our stuff for us at that point.
