Hey Jenn, oh I am so jealous...Hawaii! How nice! We did a Disney Cruise this summer and had a blast... I was nervous about the LO but she loved it.
I have a Nikon D40. I think the 3000 has now "replaced it". Though you can still get D40s at great prices online! We got ours earlier this year, march I think..I can't remember. We love it though and I get TONS of use out of it.
