  • Hmm... what about a squash dish? Acorn squash marinated and roasted would be delicious.

For a dessert how about something like snickerdoodles, or a fresh fruit display with a dip to go with?

  • What about a rich, warm dip with bagel chips?  The current apps seem a little casual for what reads like a nice dinner.
  • I don't really think there are holes in the menu.

The only thing that stands out to me is the coleslaw.  Seems like an odd match for the rest of the menu, but if it's a crowd favorite then leave it.

I might just serve whipped cream with the dessert and if you need another appetizer, what about shrimp cocktail?

  • I just realized you were asked to bring something not host.

In that case, I still vote for shrimp cocktail (it's one of my favorites).

If you want to bring a dessert, what about peppermint bark or peanut butter balls?

  • If you decide to bring squash, I have a good recipe I made for a thanksgiving party and now I'm making it for christmas dinner.  I used butternut squash.  Cubed it and tossed with olive oil, salt, and coriander.  Then baked it in the oven.  Once done, toss it with crystallized ginger and cilantro in a serving bowl.  It was soooo good!  I got it from Rachel Ray's website so you could find the full recipe there.
  • I think shrimp cocktail would be nice.  I like the snickerdoodles- to make them festive roll in red and green sugar instead of cinnamon sugar.  We call those hollydoodles.
  • I think the biggest hole IMO is the hot appetizer. You could do some sort of a hot dip or sliders (but spice them up and make them more classy..like with gouda cheese and peppered steak and grilled red and green bell peppers).
