Holiday card WWYD?

So we're finally wrapping up our cards.  DH has an aunt who doesn't celebrate Christmas anymore.  She is in some church that is Christian, but they only observe Jewish holidays.  DH thinks that we shouldn't send her a card and "disrespect her faith."  But we send cards to our Jewish and athiest friends and family members.  I don't see how this is different.  Or have I been wrong in doing that all these years?  I wouldn't be offended by receiving a card referencing a holiday other than the one that I celebrate.

Re: Holiday card WWYD?

  • I'd send it. Along with some Xmas confetti and one of those pine-tree car deodorizers. ;)
  • Send a card wishing a happy new year. My H's grandparents are in a church like that, and it would be insulting to them to send a Christmas card. You can send a "winter" card, or a New Year's card, but she'll be insulted by a Christmas card, especially if this conversion is fairly recent.

You know your friends, too - if you know they won't be offended, they won't be. I think *most* people who don't celebrate Christmas aren't offended by Christmas cards, but I do know that people who make the choice to convert to these radical sorts of sects *will* be offended. Does that make sense? I mean, the personality of the average person prevents their taking offense, just like it prevents their joining weird churches, y'know?

  • I can't imagine his aunt being offended by it, either.  I've only been around her a few times, but she is very outgoing, lovey-dovey, high energy person.  I don't feel the judgey vibe at all.  I think she would rather hear from her nephew than not.

  • I'd send her one anyway.

  • Oy... Did she become a Jew For Jesus?

Send her a card. We send generic holiday cards but get tons of Christmas cards. It's a nice gesture and not disrespectful of anything. At least IMO.
