Wow, thank you everyone
The outpouring of support from my "heartbroken" post this morning was wonderful. I completely appreciate the sympathy, empathy, advice, concern, etc etc you all gave. I wanted to give you a VERY positive update!
My DH, Mom, Memere and I all took a VERY long and exhausting drive to two places I researched on the web. Sea World in Salem and NH Bird Supply in Nashua. SW was a huge disappointment. Birds weren't very sweet, place was chaotic, a total mess, and just not the right fit for us. When we finally made it to NHBS (after getting a tad lost), wow.... let's just say the place was immaculate, staff unbelievably professional and friendly and best of all - mom found the PERFECT bird!!!! SUCH a sweet, gentle, affectionate little Sun Conure. The whole ride home he snuggled with her, ate out of her hand, and gave her kisses! The family is in LOOOOVE with this little guy, what a great way to end such a horrific week. They named him "Ray" as in our "ray of sunshine" and "everybody loves Raymond". Very fitting.
Again, thank you all, I can't tell you how happy I am that something good came out of all this, and that mom (and all of us really) have found some peace. ((HUGS))

If i knew you were going to drive to SW i would have warned you. ITs horriable there, im sorry you were disspointed. ( people there are wicked nasty i had a huge fight with the manager cuz she told my daughter off bad idea )

I am so glad to hear there is a happy ending to your story. It sounds like Ray will be a great addition to your family.
You should post a pic, I don't know much about birds or what a sun conure looks like.
Here ya go, Chrissy! This isn't actually "Ray" as he hasn't made his photograph debut yet, but exactly what he will look like when he's older. Right now he's just a baby at 5 months old so his coloring will change a bit
