Catholic question for BM or anyone else

If you are a Catholic woman who wants to marry a non-Catholic divorced man, is there any way to get married in the church?

Re: Catholic question for BM or anyone else

  • Well if his first marriage wasn't in a church I don't think it's recognized anyway. But Catholics are dumb, so he might still need to get an annulment.
  • I'm 99% certain he needs to have his 1st marraige annulled.
  • His first marriage was in a protestant church.

  • His marriage will have to be declared invalid. I'm not sure if that requires the annulment process - if he's Christian, I believe it does - but there should be some process by which they can prepare themselves for a marriage with the Church. She needs to contact her diocese's Office of Marriage and Family, and they'll be able to tell her the next steps.

  • Wow duckis.  That was quite the harsh statement.

Ouch. I guess I'm going to go sit in the corner with my dunce cap on.  And it makes it even worse because I decided to become Catholic as an adult.

  • Duckis is having a crisis of faith, peoples. It's her issue, not yours. I wouldn't take offense.

  • Sorry. As you can see I'm having some conflicts with my Catholicism. What I mean is that some of the rules are contradictory. If a Catholic doesn't get married inside a church it's not valid (even though where ever two or more of you gather in My name, there I am). But if a non-Catholic was once married outside a church they have to jump through all kinds of hoops to get it invalidated.

H isn't Catholic, but that fact was outside of our priest's realm of understanding. I'm still a little annoyed at all the proselytizing they put him through.

I'm only in the information gathering stage right now.  But keep your fingers crossed for me!!! TIA!

  • And to further clarify, I didn't mean to say Catholic people are dumb. I still consider myself a Catholic. I meant that the church has some really silly policies. I didn't mean to offend anyone.
  • I can agree that some of the policies are different and I don't always agree.  That just wasn't really your first statement.  No harm though.
  • If he is Christian and was married in a Christian ceremony, he needs an annulment in the Catholic Church.  It's much easier than the annulment of a marriage between two Catholics but still a PITA
