my comedy of errors day at Water Country yesterday (quite long)

For your amusement.

I'll start at the very beginning (It's a very good place to staaaaaaaart...).

I had planned the night before to wake up at 7, take a quickie shower and shave, etc., and be out the door at 7:30 on the road. My family gets a group discount because of how many people go every year and we have to be all lined up, stamped, paid for and ready by 9:15 in the group line to be able to get a decent amount of picnic tables as our home base.

Anywho. Alarm goes off at 7. I hop into the shower, which wakes up Alex. DH gets up, lets A into the bathroom. A watches me shower while DH shaves in the sink and announces he also needs to shower. Um, that would have been good to tell me yesterday. Sigh. I suddenly remember how difficult shaving with a gigundo belly is. Takes me forever.

I get out of the shower, get my suit on and a skirt/top to go over it, DH gets alex ready, and announces to me that my breath is seriously stank. I KNOW THIS. I have consistently had issues with tooth brushing/gargling if I try to do it first thing in the am. There is NOTHING I can do about it. I don't enjoy being narsty. So, to humor him, I tried to rinse out my mouth with some mouthwash and not gargle. DH takes Alex downstairs to fill the snacktrap and a cuppie.

I end up dry heaving and throwing up bile for 5 minutes, breaking blood vessels in my face. I went downstairs and asked DH if my breath was any better. ;) ah, sweet revenge.

We get on the road, get our breakfast and ice for the cooler, DH gives me explicit permission to speed (gee, thanks, do you know I grew up in MA? der) since it is 8:10 by the time we get on the highway. I whip through my hash brown and become completely disgusted and unenthused about eating my sausage biscuit, and Alex decides he is NOT interested in the hotcakes from McD's, and throws them across the backseat of the car. I laughed. DH was stunned. It's not like he eats them with syrup, so whatever. :)

We made fantastic time. I literally pull into the preferred lot at Water Country at 9 sharp, just behind my mom and siblings. We meet most of the others (except the organizer, my aunt, and her car-ful), and we just hang out, getting increasingly nervous because we are stuck without a full party. Alex is in a cute outfit (we wanted to wait to put the swim diaper and bathing suit on him) and DH is holding him when all of a sudden he (dh) squeals.

Alex peed THROUGH the diaper, through his shortalls, and onto DH's shirt. This is the same shirt Alex peed on at the Cape. Literally the second time DH has worn it. It's an awesome shirt, but it's forever going to be known as the pee shirt now. So, we had an imprompto change on top of the cooler, and about 200 people saw Alex's man bits. Whatever. Everyone around us was laughing. Poor Matt.

My aunt finally arrived, LATE. By this time, people have already started to go in, we're all thinking we won't even get ONE table, and I have to pee SO badly. So I go up to the front to complain, and they let me in to pee. My family got the bright idea of sending my Nana in to "pee" (aka reserve a table) since they were taking forever. So they did.

We get in, Nana reserved about 4 tables in our usual spot, great. We lube alex up with sunscreen, get ourselves, and off we go to the infant area. He is understandably timid despite his love of water. It's all new to him. So we let him do his thing and just kind of follow him around a little. While doing so, he trips a bit on his water shoes and goes down onto the pavement, giving himself a half dollar sized scratch on his forehead. Hysterics ensue...and then he rubs his eyes and gets LOTION in them. Even more hysterics. Eyes turn red. We grab him and go back to the picnic tables, trying to make him feel better...nothing was helping except the occasional baked lays potato chip. So I carried him over to first aid and we put drops in his eyes to help flush them out. COMPLETE MAJOR FLIP OUT. Uh muh guh. I carried him back, in tears (which was a good thing) and DH was worried b/c he didn't see me walk off. So I told him to take him for a walk in the carriage with his binker, he was exhausted, it was obvious. Kept rubbing his eyes (we took alcohol to his hands to remove any remaining lotion). So off DH goes, and I sit down on the picnic bench and realize there is no freaking back support.

Long story shorter, we stayed until about 2 because we were able to get Alex to take a nap in his stroller. He never really recovered eye wise. It was so bright out that it hurt his eyes, so he was happy to be in the shade of the tables. I started to really hurt from being stupid and carrying him across the park both ways to the first aid station, and with no back support, my hips were screaming. So we left and came home, upon which Alex woke up for a second nap and was full of energy and his yelling, normal self. Still with some pink eyes but feeling much better. Of course, we don't pay $22 pp to get into my house. Makes total sense. Sigh.

And, it's just after 9am, and he's still sleeping. Poor man.

I hope you enjoyed my story.
