Hey ladies! I just got married last Friday so I'm moving over here from the knot to the nest. Just wanted to say hello!
Re: officially a mrs.
Congrats and welcome to the Central Fla Nest!
A little about me ..ok here goes...I'm originally from Brazil but have been living in Daytona since I was 7. I've been with DH for two years now. He works with J&P Cycles and loves sportsbikes and I go to UCF for Psychology. Oh and we're getting a puppy in September, I can't wait!!
I'd love to know about you girls as well. :}
Oh and I forgot to tell you, if you want to join our listserv, send me a PM with your email address. That way you'll be on the list to receive gtg invitations!
I also got my degree in Psychology, my first bachelors anyway. It was so interesting and even though I don't technically use it, I really enjoyed that major and I'm glad I did it.
Anyway, I just wanted to say "awesome!" to you for going for you PhD. I know from friends that that's a rough road! I don't know about you but it seems (at UF anyway) like there were two camps in the psych department, the cognitive peeps and the behavioral peeps. I have two friends with Masters in Behavioral psych and I've always been of the behavioral persuasion myself. I just never had the patience for cognitive. And behavioral theory just seemed to make more sense to me intuitively. It could also be that by behavioral professor rocked the house and the stupid grad student who taught me cognitive blew chunks, who knows??
But I'm curious what cognitive behavior therapy entails and why you chose it. Again, I have a friend who is a behavior analyst and I know what she does. So I'm curious how similar it is.
totally agree! I took behavioral and cognitive during the same semester, one right after the other. It was funny to go to behavioral and listen to the prof knock cognitive, then go to cognitive and listen to that prof knock behavioral!
and Layne, don't you work with babies? I'm sure you see behavioral in the works all the time!
Yeah, I feel like I use behavioral all the time with my kids at work. I try to teach my parents how to use it to get the baby to sleep or eat or do what you want them to do (within reason) but the parents just get so frustrated when the kid cries that they stick a bottle in it's mouth. Then they expect to eat every hour or be picked up every time they cry and it becomes a vicious cycle. But I feel like my background in psych really helps me understand this stuff. I love it! I try to use it with Raina too but I'm no better than the parents. I'm such a softie with her I can never enforce it.
