a ? for Dr. WW

yesterday afternoon i started feeling really crummy - i feel like I am really bloated (my stomach is actually distended), and somewhat nauseous, my chest and back feel tight, and it's a little hard to breathe.

I have been taking antibiotics for a sinus infection the last couple of days, and wonder if it's causing a major gas bubble in my intestines.

Maybe TMI, but I've been going to the bathroom without any issues.

Any suggestions to get this to go away or to make myself more comfortable? I'm going to stop the antibiotics because i know killing the bacteria in your intestines can lead to these issues. I've been drinking Pepto, water, and I had a yogurt for dinner yesterday and today for lunch. no other food since 1pm yesterday. (I can't fit anything else in there - even the yogurt made me feel sick, but i know the bacteria will help.)

I've been laying down with a heating pack all day and it's not helping. i've also tried a massager on my lower back/stomach - no help.

  • Get some Gas-X. You are right about the bacteria being out of whack, but I wouldn't stop the antibiotics unless your doctor is okay with that. Stopping them prematurely can bring back your infection because they haven't had time to do their job.

  • Try getting on all fours. Keeping your hands planted, rock all the way back on to your calves, feet. That might be able to force the bubble out. Try rocking back and forth, to both extremes. Basically you're trying to squeeze your belly to move the gas.

Bonus points if you do this while at work.
