Edit: Holy Moly I am tired...

I went to bed around 9:30pm....got up to feed Austin around 1:30am....and I couldn't get back to sleep after that....Lord only knows why, I was totally exhausted and tired and just kept tossing and turning and looking at the clock....Tom was kind enough to get Austin up at 7am (he had been up since 6am for a feeding) and brought him downstairs while he had his coffee and I tried to "sleep in" a bit...then brought him back to his bassinet at 8am for a nap...to which he still didn't fall asleep and kept me from "sleeping in"....oye....it's going to be a rough day...

Oh yes and we are going to try and break him of the swaddling...we've been swaddling him with one arm out for over a month and he has suddenly taken an interest to his opposite hand that we usually swaddle....so now we are going to try and just swaddle him from the torso down...

Re: Edit: Holy Moly I am tired...

  • Oh man I would be tired too!  I was so stupid last night and didn't go to bed until midnight(jack was asleep at 9 LOL)  Well I couldn't sleep in either, even though Jack slept until 8am!  Aghhh!  I am so stressing about the swaddling thing Lisa!  Jack still jerks around so much that I know he will not do well without his swaddle! I tried the one arm thing, but he still wakes up and he keeps hiself up sucking on that hand too!  But I am worried he will be rolling soon and we will need to stop cold turkey, but man everytime I think we will try unswaddling him, I say "but he needs his sleep and SO DO WE!" hahaha !  Do you know how long babies can usually be swaddled?

I say the same thing to myself!!! I tried the non-swaddling thing a couple of weeks ago (maybe it was a month ago, I can't remember) I had him in a sleep sack at night and he was moving around so much I know he wasn't sleeping well and neither was I, because I heard his every move...so I decided he needed a better rest and went back to swaddling since he finds it soothing.....but this time I'm committed to getting him out of the swaddle....I know I'll probably be exhausted from him not sleeping or napping well and so won't he, but I feel he needs to get used to his arms being out and about and I just have to stick it out and do it....he hasn't been napping well lately and usually I think it is because he's been trying to get himself out of the swaddle....plus I'm up twice a night feeding him anyways, so what is a little less sleep to me, ya know?

I've heard babies can be swaddled until they start rolling onto their bellies...

  • Yikes!  I hate not being able to sleep especially when you know you really need too!
  • oh god i hate when that happens!

gl with the swaddle!  both the boys hated it, er, or they hated how i did it because they loved it when the nurses did it at the hospital for me...., so they werent swaddled for long at all.....

  • Good Luck with the unswaddling!!  Let us know how it goes and if you have any tips.  I am SOOOOO scared to stop swaddling.  Jack is such a good sleeper.  He sleeps from 8:30 to 6/7 then goes back to bed to 9:00 typically.  However, that is being swaddled.  When he takes short naps I don't swaddle him and those arms are EVERYWHERE!!  He scratched right by his eye the other day cause his hands are all over his face.  Unswaddling=scary!!!
  • We stopped swaddling around 4 1/2- 5 months or so. ?Ben just started fighting it when we tried to do it, so we yjust went cold turkey. ?It was a rough night or two, but he adjusted pretty well and he used to not be able to sleep without it!! ? Good luck. ?Remember, you don't need to rush. ?He will tell you when he's ready to break it. ?Good luck!
