For those with beach babies...

What do you/will you use to keep baby shaded at the beach? I 've seen those infant tents but some beaches are so windy I feel like they might just blow away. Matty will be 8 months when we get back to Oahu and the ONLY thing my girls ever wanna do is hit the beach. Even when they were tiny. That was actually one of Tia's first words. I would hate for him to miss out on all the fun(me too :() but obviously his safety in the sun is most important.

And for all my Oahu gals- What are your fave beaches to hit? Any faves for baby(i.e. shady trees, tiny waves...)? We normally hit the lagoon at the Hilton, the beach at the wall and sometimes the Ko' olina lagoons. Any other suggestions you have would be great. TIA!

Re: For those with beach babies...

  • How about a beach umbrella -- the kind that are secured into the sand?

Ala Moana Beach is a great spot for families and young children.  It's calm, shallow and very swimmable, especially at the Magic Island side.  Parking is also convenient, particularly during the work week.  Weekends can be crazy.

  • We have a little beach tent that we got in Paris (I know, totally random).  We brought it with us last holiday season and just left it here w/BIL's family.  We've used it every time we've hit the beach.  Sean Patrick will actually walk in there on his own when he's had enough sun :)

We also really like Ala Moana Park.  Magic Island is okay but the sand is too pebble-y for SP - it's great if your kiddos have reef walkers though.  We just go to the regular ole' Ala Moana Beach Park, park on the street by the bathrooms/snack shop.  SP has had a BLAST so we're def going back there a couple more times before we leave in a week.

We also like Kailua Beach however it's been windy there lately so we've stayed away.  Plus the Prez is staying there so we don't want to get caught in his traffic jams :)

We'll prob also hit up Lanikai Beach before we leave, the sand is really nice and soft there.
