Compressing files = locked up computer

I have an ibm think pad with Windows XP.  Whenever I go in to compress my files, the computer will totally lock up.  The mouse won't work, nothing.  I have to power it down manually.  Any ideas for me?

Re: Compressing files = locked up computer

  • Compress them with what - WinZip?  Has it always worked before?  Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling WinZip (or whatever you're using to compress the files).  Have you tried downloading and installing a different program like WinRar?

  • How long do you let it sit and work after it locks up before shutting off your computer?
