Urban Meyer pulling a Brett Farve?
Make up your mind, retiring or not retiring??!! It sounds like he really didn't think his decision through very well.

I was shocked that he was actually leaving the game...not as surprised when the story changed today and he said he wasn't done. I knew he'd be back. Now, if he decides again that he's not coming back to the game...then maybe I'll start comparing it to Favre.
I just hope he gets better soon...I can't imagine what he's been through the past few years with all the pressure of coaching such a spotlight team like Florida. And he's such a good coach at the height of his career that I'd hate for him to have to walk away.
No, he's even more douchey than Favre. He changed his mind in like, a day.
Favre was pushed out the door in Green Bay, and then they wouldn't release him so he could play for the team he wanted to be on. Very different situation.
Brett Favre has changed his mind at least 10 times. If such a thing even qualifies as 'douchey,' then I think he's surpassed that benchmark.
I DO agree that this was not a well thought-out decision. As Lou Holtz commented, it's generally not wise to make major decisions when under significant stress. But again, I fail to see how poor decision making=douchey.
And while I'm not thrilled with the thought of having Steve Addazio at the helm for an indefinite period of time, I'll take this option over "Corch" leaving, period.
what a douche to put his players through this he should be ashamed...he reminds me of a tabloid glory hound and all of his credibility just slid down the crapper and I couldn't be happier for it....I can't tell you how fired up this made me, kids that he is suppose to be molding that look to him for guidance and this is what he gives them? he is an azz and he and Jon Gosselin should look for a joint book effort or a world "look at me" tour

LOL It's amazing how little of the Favre saga has actually been explained in the media. Favre was pushed out the door in GB, he never wanted to play for the Jets but GB wouldn't release him. It was so obvious that wanted to play for the Vikings. Him playing for MN was all but a done deal, but the media played it out like he couldn't make up his mind. He already knew, it just wasn't supposed to be so public, so soon.
He didn't change his mind more than once. He did what he had to do so he could get on the team he wanted to play for.
Don't get me wrong, I like watching Favre play, but as a person I get that "I hate you" feeling every time I see him. I don't like the guy, but the media twisted and distorted his ordeal into something totally different from what actually happened. The media created a story where there hardly was one.

As much as I hate to do so, I will admit that most, if not all, of this is true. I was a "Favre hater" who had to stop and take a second look at how this came to be the situation it did. Ted Thompson wanted Rodgers to play, so he did what he could to make Favre feel unwelcome. If anything, months later, I blame Thompson. He took our legacy quarterback, gave him a swift kick in the yass for 16 years of play, and him in *his* guy. So, as mad as I was at Favre in the beginning, I can see how he came to do all this. We all knew he didn't want to be in NY. But I still am hurt by him playing for the rival team. Yes, he chose the team that needed a QB (badly!) and would give him a shot at another SuperBowl..... but it hurts a lot to see him in purple. Ew.
My husband, who is a HUGE Florida Gator fan, seems to think that Meyer is kind of an attention wh*re and is pissed because the spotlight is on Brian Kelly instead of him, so he decided to pull this.
My theory is that Meyer and Tebow are going to run away together.
I can really understand what Meyer is doing/going through in this situation but I could never understand Brett...
College coaching is TOUGH..very, very stressful. Not only on the coach but also on the family. But *most* college coaches do see their players as their family. What he needs for him and his "real" family is time away...but imaging walking out on your extended family in a situation like that...wouldn't be easy. I'm sure his decision and the reaction of his players (even though they were probably supportive) made him feel even worse after actually doing it (versus just thinking it) and he realized that wouldn't help him to get better anyway.
My DH is a college coach and he really, really cares about his players and when he took the job that he has now a year and a half ago and had to call all of his players at his previous school to tell them the was leaving, it crushed him. And that was just for a better opportunity that they all understood.
I really hope he can actually take this time off and relax..I can see him being away causing more stress for him. I hope that he is able to get healthy and spend that precious and rare time with his family and come back soon!

At least Meyer has a legitimate reason for what he's been doing - a knee jerk reaction to his health. Instead of an overly dramatic tantrum.

Favre retired. Period. And then threw a huge hissy fit when they wouldn't let him waltz back onto the scene and take over his previous post. As an act of revenge on his previous management (and dismissing and insulting entire state's worth of loyal fans in the process) he left to be a Jet, but only as a means to be Viking. And that is after waffling AGAIN.
If anyone wants to argue that he was mistreated- fine. He obviously wasn't wanted back by the Packers, but can you blame them? After watching the sideline drama between him and Childress I wouldn't want him around either. After watching all of the drama he is clearly an egotistical, self centered drama queen. I wanted to puke when he was running around during the first Vikings/Pack game doing his little celebrations. It was the ultimate proverbial middle finger to loyal, life long fans.

Are you serious? Do you think any other QB would have done something different in that situation? I'm sure Brees or Brady would have had the same words with their coach if they were trying to pull them out of a game under similar circumstances! Not to mention that Childress is pure shiit for a coach, and he sucks at play calling. Audibles exist for a reason, and he can't be pissed at his QB for using them.
The media just loves Favre and they talk about him 24/7. No wonder everyone hates him, the media can't shut up about him, even when there's no story. We're lucky John Madden retired or we'd be hearing about Favre even more.
Meyer is an attentionwhore. There was no reason for pulling his little stunt. No one forced him or told him to do anything, and most adults would take some time to weigh their options before calling the press.
Sorry you think Favre gave you the finger (what, is he supposed to be sad that he beat the snot out of GB twice?), but GB gave him the finger, first. He could still be yours, and he could be beating the snot out of the Queens, but you guys kicked him out the door.
i'll be honest.. I didn't read past the "douchey" comment. I wasn't going to read this thread at all b/c it's just seems silly to me to compare someone who actually DID retire, twice, and then decided to come back, twice, to someone who wanted (needed) to take a break for HEALTH ISSUES and then was convinced by his AD and players to stay. There really isn't a huge comparison here at all.
And to call him a douche for this is totally ridiculous to me. He's trying to balance what is best for him, his family and his team. How is that being a douche?

Would other QBs COMPLETELY defy the play calls because they think they know better? Perhaps, but if they're going to it damn well better work. Its Childress's team, not Favre's.
Brett Favre is not like any other QB, love him or hate him. This is how he's been for the ~20 years he's been in the NFL, and Childress knew that when he begged him to come to Minnesota.
Last week, Childress called the plays in the first half. In the second half, Favre called them himself. Which half went better? The Vikings played like total crap in the first half and almost came back from a huge deficit in the second.
I have to agree with this. Favre is annoying because he keeps saying he is going to retire, then wants to come back in a few months. I really do not see how the situations are the same at this point in time.
