On Father's Day, the Orlando Sentinel printed a story about babies named after sports figures. My aunt vacationing at WDW brought the article home for me.
My daughter is named for a baseball player so I wrote to the author. They printed my letter in this past Sunday's edition (July 27, 2008). I would like a copy of the letter to put along with the original article in her baby book. I tried to order a back copy, but it is $10.75 to have it sent to me in Ohio.
I thought I would try to ask some Nesties for help before spending that. I don't need the whole paper, just my letter. If you receive the Orlando Sentinel and would be able to cut out and mail me the newsprint copy of my letter I would be so grateful! I'm obviously more than happy to reimburse you the cost of the stamp. Sure would beat 10 bucks!
If you think you can help, please e-mail me kuperstwn at yahoo dot com
TIA!
~Sarah
Re: Can you help an Ohio Nestie?!?
Hi Sarah I found your story:
Letters to the sports editor
July 27, 2008My daughter was born on May 13. We named her Maris -- after Roger Maris, Yankee great in the late '50s, early '60s. . . .
I really enjoyed your article (Andrea Adelson, What's in a name?, June 15). I found one fault with it, though . . . You gave a huge number of great sports-related names. And in each one of them, including your own, you wrote it as if, a) it was the dad's idea and mom went along with it, or b) mom suggests the name and if dad can find a matching sports figure then he'll be happy.
Our beautiful little girl and our future baseball babies will all have their names because of my love of the sport. My husband, well, he just has to go along with me.

No postage needed :-) HTH
Nery - I think she probably wanted the actual clipping for a scrapbook or something. :-)
Sarah - I'm sorry, I would love to help, but I don't get the paper. Hopefully one of our other local girls can help you out!
I figured she would want the actual one but incase no one found she could print it... :-) Hopefully someone has it.
(Not sure why all those codes came out...lol)
Thank you all! (I do want the newspaper copy. Just for the scrapbook)
It was in the Sports Section, but it looks like Lance&Diane will be able to help me. Thanks again!
