Need advice on a camera...

So DH and I are looking into getting a new camera.  we have a point and shoot now and I want a nicer one.  I don't want to get into photography, just want to take better pictures.  I originally wanted the Nikon D60, that is now getting replaced my the D3000.  Then I started looking at the D5000, which has video mode and live mode that the D3000 doesnt.  I don't really care for the video mode since we have a video camera, but it's the live mode I want that the D3000 doesnt have.  I've heard good things about Nikon, but have heard almost better things about Canons.  I have no idea what the difference is, and alot of people say its a preference, but I don't have one.  I don't want to settle for something, but I want something that is user friendly.  The canon I was looking at is the XSi.  Any suggestions?

  • I have a Canon xsi, and love it!  I got it for Christmas last yr, and love the pictures it takes.  I've had a lot of Canons in the past, and continue to love them.

  • Are you committed to a DSLR or would a really nice point and shoot work for you?  I have a Cannon G10 and absolutely LOVE it.  It's not difficult to use and it takes FABULOUS photos.  DH and I blew up some photos we took with it to 20 x 30 for Christmas presents and they looked every bit as good as the images we blew up from my Olympus E-3.  It also has video capability, but that wasn't really a selling point for me... Just another option to consider...
