Re: I was just fired. NFT.
Well, Merry fvcking Xmas to you, hope you didn't spend 5K on Christmas presents. Luv, your former employer.
I'm sorry . Def. pursue unemployment. Sometimes the forcible break is a perfect opportunity for a little bit of career re-evaluation and breaking the "I'm employed" inertia.
agreed with all of the above.
And yes, I was hired for my current gig while pregnant. Not visibly so, but I did tell them before they hired me, and they still did.
I'd also just do the unemployment for a while, at least until you figure things out. I've done it a few times, sadly. For a while, people kept asking me why I didn't at least go to work at Starbucks - um, because I was pulling in $500/week with 100% free time to do whatever I wanted (including job hunt) vs. slaving away and having no free time for less than $400/week. (That will, of course, depend on your state's unemployment payout, but still, it's often not worth it.)
PMeg, did they formally write you up for anything? I'm not sure if you work for an at-will state... but it helps your case when you are never officially told they have an issue with you and they just fire you.
I was let go... and then they decided to contest my unemployment. I was all freaked out. I thought it was going to be in a courtroom and all that. I get there... and I'm in this women's cubicle. She's wearing jeans and a hoodie. She tells me that my former employer told her they were contesting my unemployment because they had issues with my attendance. She asked me if they ever talked to me about this. I told her (as was the truth) that they NEVER brought it up to me. I explained that I have a seizure disorder and they were fully aware that I would need to attend doctor's appointments (this was right as I was starting to have seizures... it's under control now). I told her that they never once said anything when I told them I had to attend doctor's appointments.
Three days later, I received all my backchecks in my mailbox... about 5 weeks worth!
