Brew Pub + B-day Help

I am in the process of planning DH's 30th birthday.  Ultimately I was thinking of having dinner around 9 pm at a local brew pub.  However, I also wanted to organize a "mini" pub crawl at bars within walking distance to the final restaurant.  I was thinking of having a special couple *surprise* him at each location and his best buds from back east be the final surprise at dinner.

1.  What brew pub would you suggest that could accomodate 12 people on a Friday night with some privacy AND have cute bars within walking distance?  I would hate for people to have to drive to different locations of the city.

2.  What are the bars within walking distance?

This is actually being done on his birthday to distract him from the possibility of a suprise party which is being held the next day.  I was thinking of sending the boys out to golf or tour Widmer Brewery.  Any other ideas?  Widmer offers a tour at 12:30 but I really need something to distract him till 3:45.  (But, I guess by the time they tour and grab lunch and walk around that might work.)

Thanks for all your help.  I am so bad with locations.  We eat downtown often, but Dh is the geographical guru.  I just go along for the ride.  : )

Re: Brew Pub + B-day Help

  • You could hit up NW Portland. Quite a few breweries to choose from: Deschutes, Rogue, Bridgeport & McMenamins are ones I can think of off the top of my head. From any of these spots there are plenty of bars within walking distance.

If your husband is a big beer guy, I just read about Green Dragon in SE Portland which appears to have a huge beer list pdxgreendragon.com

Check out this company as well http://www.teamweb.com/brewbus/ as something to do for a distraction the next day.

  • Thanks for the ideas.  I also find a link online where people post their pubcrawls and restaurant locations on a map.  I took down some ideas and will wander around.  I think I will narrow it down to Rogue, Deschutes, and Bridegeport as a final location.  I guess I am mainly looking for a quiter brew pub for dinner.

    I appreciate your post.
