Back in the saddle (a reintroduction)

I'm reintroducing myself after a 3-4 month hiatus from the Nest. We built a house in 10 weeks this fall, got engaged, moved, did Thanksgiving and Christmas, and now that those events are in the past, I have time to participate again!

I live in Montana, Zone 4 a. I'm SO excited that we're past the winter solstice and I'm already itching to get gardening. Can I tell you how much fun it was to plan a landscape from the beginning!? Hopefully I don't hate it!

We had a $5,000 landscaping budget, which didn't stretch too far. The landscapers installed sod in October, as well as an irrigation system. I even had them run drip lines across the north west corner of the property (which gets good summer sun) for veggie gardening. No more hoses or sprinklers! I also threw about 200 bulbs into beds before it snowed. I'm excited to see what comes up.

So who else is excited to take down the Christmas lights and break out the gardening books?

Re: Back in the saddle (a reintroduction)

  • Wow, Montana!  I can't wait either.  I was out trying the new gardening tools I got yesterday for Christmas even though there is snow on the ground!
  • Me, me, me!! My mama got me some fancy, frilly tulip bulbs, allium (one HUGE and 3 smaller) bulbs and a lovely swiss army style pruning set. Sadly I put my back out yet again so I'm going to have to get my little brother over to plant my bulbs ASAP so I can enjoy them (hopefully) this spring/summer! My garden is looking very barren and brown, so I can't wait for the green shoots to start popping up!

  • I am also looking forward to spring! I planted a ton of bulbs last fall too.

I can't decide if I want to start my veggie garden from seed this year or if I want to wait and buy plants from the garden centers again like I did last year. I am terrible at growing things indoors, but I hear that you can get so much more by starting from seed.
