Extreme Home Foreclosure

Re: Extreme Home Foreclosure

  • That's one reason (among many) that show makes my dh angry (aside from his hatred for Ty) - he's a mtg guy and is always saying how these people could never afford the mtgs that they are getting with the bigger house. ?never mind that they build the houses SO much nicer than any others in the neighborhood, that they'd never get near what they are worth if they sold, since appraisals are all based on comp values. ?Those people are dumb if they took out that much $$ against the house, though.
  • That agrivates the heck out of me!!  The concept of the show is great, but its not realistic.  These people obviously don't have the money to afford these huge houses, and if they did don't you think they would of fixed their old home first before going through all of this!?  How can ABC actually think that they are doing these families a favor?     What really irritates me about that article is one of the contractors saying how  upset he is that they spend all that time, energy and money into building that house and the family just threw it all away.                                                                                                You are setting these families up to fail even before they step foot inside the house!

  • They didn't deserve all that charity and kindness.  A $450K loan with the house as collateral?  Total idiots.
  • This show bugs me too. The whole concept of this show is to set these deserving families up so that they can have a better life. But it does just set them up for failure. What they should do, is build modest homes that look like they go with the neighborhood, not these goddy monstrosities that they usually build. I mean, come on, look at the house in Manchester, it looks ridiculous! I wonder how that family is doing.

Maybe ABC is doing some sort of mean experiment and setting these families up on purpose. This isn't the first family to have this happen. The other one wasn't there fault, it was that they couldn't afford the house. These people sound like they are morons anyway, but don't give them the false hope that everything is going to be alright just because they have a new house.

  • I was just talking to a co-worker of mine about this.  She stated that she believes the people in Manchester are close to foreclosure as well.  Her husband works for a siding company that did the siding for the new house... Its awful...
  • This makes me angry. Thousands of people pulled together and went above and beyond for them, to give them a second chance in life that most people don't get... and they go and use it for collateral? They were given plenty of money to help with upkeep & taxes, they never should have touched the equity that was given to them.

  • I saved my comments until you guys responded- LOL. I thought I would be in the minority being annoyed about this!

I don't know that ABC necessarily sets them up to fail though. These people seem rather ungrateful. They were given a second chnce to have a nice life. We all work hard for what we have. They were GIVEN this. They should have more of an appreciation for it.

  • I would agree that the reason why they are in foreclosure was a dumb move on their part. They can only blame themselves for that. But to have a family for ends up in foreclosure simply because they cannot afford the house, then I blame ABC...
  • Seeing this is the first of the 100 or so houses that ABC has built for these families that has gone into foreclosure, I hardly think ABC is to blame for setting the people up.  They were given a house, money to upkeep the house and money for their kids for college.  I blame the family for spending the $$ and then taking a loan.  Maybe the family should have invested the funds they were given.

People that are irresponsible with money will not change their spots.  ABC even suggests that these families meet with a financial planner so this type of thing doesn't occur.

  • I don't think it's ABC's fault at all.  These people took out a loan AFTER the house was built and used the house as collateral.  It sounds as if these people were a bit careless and took advantage of the situation.  Usually their mortgages are paid off as part of their package.  I agree with the other pp too that this is the first foreclosure of all of the houses that they have built.  Not bad considering the state of the current market.
  • Yes, the people in GA are morons and deserve it.

But this is not the first time this has happened. There was an Oregon family whose daughter was sick and then died only a few months later (I think) and the family has been struggling to survive. The didn't do anything stupid financially, it's because ABC never paid off their existing mortgage on the house they demolished and then gave them a new house and new more expensive mortgage. So yes, ABC is to blame for some of these.

And if the people in Manchester are having a hard time too, how many other families are having the same problems?
