No, I'm not pregnant!
Mike and I are getting a foreign exchange student!! His name is Nils, he's 16 and he's from Germany. He'll hopefully be here by August 10th. We are so excited!! Hopefully by the middle of this week we'll have email addresses so we can start communicating with him. Yay!!!
Just had to share
Re: Announcement:
Wow - how interesting. Will he go to school here then? How long does he stay? C's family had an exchange student when he was in high school and they still keep in touch w/ their family...it's a pretty special experience. Wonderful of you guys to open your home.
Does he speak English and/or do you guys speak German?
My Photography Blog
Yes he will be going to Leesburg high, most likely taking 11th/senior courses since students are so much more advanced in Europe. He'll be here for the whole school year. He speaks pretty good English, but Mike actually speaks some German. His grandmother is originally from Germany, so we're going to have them meet at some point. And I gotta say, this kid is SO cute! I mean he is absolutely adorable! Just wait until I can show you a picture!! He's small for his age, though, so I hope he doesn't get picked on at school.
I can't wait until he gets here! And let me tell ya, if you want motivation to clean up your house, this is very good motivation!!!
That is very cool! My boss had a foreign exchange student when her kids were in high school and they still keep in touch with him and were even invited to his wedding. I think that is pretty cool.
Congrats and keep us posted on your new experience. I am sure he is going to LOVE your cooking!
Wow, nothing like jumping directly INTO the fire!!! You are jumping directly into being the "mother" of a high school teen-ager! And if he's a cutie... imagine all the late night phone calls from the high school girls.
I think it's wonderful that you are opening up your home and your lives so this young man can have this experience. Please keep us updated how you all are doing throughout the year.
I know!! Mike and I were both high school camp counselors, so we know how to deal with teenagers, but it will still take some adjustments. He really is a cutie, but in a little-boy puppy-dog kinda way. The kind the high school girls want to be BFF's with but not date. You'll see what I mean when I show you pictures! But who knows, maybe he'll find a short girl!!
I'm already kicking into mother-mode. Last Sunday at church I sat behind a group of teenage boys, and I had to stop myself from warning them to be nice to him when he comes!!
Very nice!! This will be an awesome experience for all of you.
