I'm a "more than 10 years, less than half my life". I lived in Austin for 13 years before moving back up to DC.
I was just thinking today about some of the things I miss about Austin. I sure wish I could pick it up and move it about 1400 miles or so closer! DC rocks, and I really do love being back here, but I still miss the "weird" factor. I mean, we have a weird factor all our own (politics, anyone?), but Austin's weird is a whole lot more fun.
I am relatively new here...I have only been in Austin for a year. From Chicago, by way of NY.
DH is in the video game industry and Austin is a mecca for that, and my job allows me to work anywhere.
I do love that it is so relaxed in Austin. People are even more friendly here than they are in the Midwest. This is also more of an all night town than Chicago and I really like having the large student population here.
