Wz Re: Big Love

Do you watch the HBO show 'Big Love'? It's about a polygamous Mormon family. Their fourth season is sure to attract some attention- at least from the Mormon community- with a gay storyline. Gay relationships are prohibited within the Mormon church.

"There's a provocative nature to what we're doing," co-creator Mark Olsen told Entertainment Weekly magazine.

"It's more than just the Mormon culture. We're highlighting certain aspects of the church's relationship with its gay members that I think, as the story unfolds, is going to cause no [small] amount of controversy."

The Mormon church, however, has already made it clear that 'Big Love' doesn't accurately reflect their beliefs.

"It is important to remember that 'Big Love' is a work of fiction," Latter-day Saints spokeswoman Kim Farah said.

Do you watch 'Big Love'? If so, what do you think of this new storyline? Does it seem like a good fit with the show or just a stunt to get more viewers? I don't watch, so I'm curious to hear what viewers think.

Re: Wz Re: Big Love

  • they've actually had gay storylines (Alby) before.

is this in regards to Heather's crush on Sarah?

  • I'm in the process of re-watching seasons 1-3 to get ready for 4. I'm halfway through season 2 right now - but I started regularly watching when season 2 began.

I'm bummed because I'll be travelling for business on 1/10 - I know the hotel gets HBO, so I'm hoping I can catch the episode.

  • I LOVE THIS SHOW.

but it's unfair to think that mormons are the only religious group with issues on the ghey. many christians aren't too yay for gay.

i think that catholics just recently said it's not a sin to be gay, as long as they don't act on it. it's probably like suicide, and considered a mental illness or something.

but i don't mind the storylines. it's an interesting take on how it's treated. after all, it's not like there really aren't gay mormons out there and it's complete fiction to think it can be true.

  • Didn't two younger wives of Bill's business partner run off together? Whatever happened with that?
