stolen poll: NYE 1999

I can't believe it's already been 10 years since the Y2K fiasco.  what did you do for NYE in '99?

I went on a last-minute trip to vegas with friends - we ended up somehow getting into a high-rollers party at a hotel (I can't remember which one!).  it was super fun, even if I didn't have anyone to makeout with at midnight.

Re: stolen poll: NYE 1999

  • I had a low-key NYE with my family, and then flew out to see DH (at home on Christmas break) on NY's day for dirt cheap in a deserted SA airport because everyone else had been afraid to fly!
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • I was dating a guy and we went to his friends house with about 10 kids. I got stuck with a kid on my lap all night long.

It didn't last very long after that.

  • We (STBXH & I) spent the evening with friends.  It was a little anti-climatic because the year before (our first together) we were in NYC.  However, we got up and went to Mt Bonnell to watch the sunrise.  That was phenomenal!!

The one thing I loved most about NYE in '99 was the international coverage of ringing in the New Year across the world.  I wish they did that every year.

  • I was a senior in high school and just went to a party with friends. It wasn't very fun though. I didn't know that many people and they were very keep-to-their-group. Like pp, we too were saying "anticlimactic".

  • I was 15 and in high school with Joe Ely's daughter. I thought it was sooo cool I went to a "celebrity's" house! Haha Anyways, Joe Ely's daughter had a party at her parent's house. It was a blast. We had a bonfire and fireworks. There was booze I was too afraid to drink. Live music I was too young to appreciate. And lots of people. I think it was one of my first "parties."
  • I was dating XH, and we went to a party at the home of some friends of his.  I vaguely recall getting into some sort of minor argument with him towards the end of the evening (the post-midnight end of the evening) and him yelling at me in front of his friends.

    Hmm, how 'bout that!  Indifferent

  • I broke up with my now husband because he wouldn't propose (I had told him to give me a ring before the end of the year or I was out of there, he didn't and thought he had called my bluff.  He was wrong!).  I spent it with a new guy I met.  :)

    Scandalous! Hahaha.

  • My mom's family had a Family Reunion!  We all came to Puerto Rico and had a big party in an event's hall and rang in 2000!  It was my senior year of high school!

  • I spent it in Williamsburg with family.  My aunt and I stood outside our hotel watching fireworks.  Good memories!

  • Passed out in a limo in Sandra Bullock's driveway before midnight.  :(
  • hmmmm. new years 1999... I was in the 10th grade and was 15 years old.  Embarrassed

I have no clue what I was doing that night.  Probably went to my (then) bf's house and hung out drinking sprite.  I was a good, good, girl and there was nothing scandalous about that night, for sure.

    details please.

  • I was a baby then!  I was in the 8th grade and about 14 years old but I do remember that year because one of my friends were over but couldn't stay til midnight because her parents were in to that whole new years fiasco that the world was going to end, complete with stocking their cabinets full of food.  Then my BFF from the 3rd grade on, who happens to be male, was there, who I also happened to be madly in love with all growing up til I got a real boyfriend and he was my New Year's kiss. Embarrassed

  • I was visiting my dad in Hawaii (he was stationed there in the military) and I think we went to some get-together at the home of one of his co-workers. I was pretty bummed and lonely without any of my friends or my boyfriend around, but it was still cool to go to the westernmost part of the island to see the last sunset of the century, and then see Hawaiians go NUTS with the fireworks. Seriously. I think it's a big part of Asian cultures that have a lot of influence there, and there were so many fireworks popping off in the street that the smoke made a thick fog as we were driving home after midnight.
  • Nothing spectacular.  I was in college at the time and my group of friends went to a party a little after midnight.  No one to kiss.  Not too eventful.

    :-)

  • I was a junior in high school and went to a party.  Shortly after midnight, a pipe burst in the basement and water was everywhere, and for a moment we thought it was Y2K.  A guy was yelling, "The Russians are here! The Russians are here!"

And a really really hot senior kissed me at midnight and I closed my eyes and saw fireworks.  But that may have been my buzz....  :)

  • I was a senior in high school... and I was at my boyfriend Steven's house.  We watched a few movies, did fireworks and had snacks to eat.  It was a very G rated NYE. Smile
  • I was a software troubleshooter for a computer company.  I spent NYE working, maing sure all systems were up and running as each time zone hit midnight.  It suuuuucked at the time, but I guess it's kinda cool looking back.  I mean, we were basically waiting to see if the sky was falling. =)

Dude.  I'm OLD compared to most of you.

Right there with you lady.  I was reading these other posts and was shocked at how young everyone is.  I will turn the big 35 in January.  I can't get over how many people were still in high school...

  • Man, I am old. I went to New Orleans with a big group of friends & we all got separated in the French quarter bc it was wall to wall drunk people & I spent most of the pre-midnight night with a guy in the group I didnt know very well bc we got separated from the group "together". Then miraculously the group managed to find each other right before midnight. I know we ended up drenched in sweat dancing at a gay bar called Rainbow something until the wee hours. It was a blast. Probably my most fun nye ever!
  • Ugh, I feel old now too!

I was downtown Austin - it was CRAZY, but lots of fun!!  :)

  • Meh- mine was lame.  I was a Dr in high school at a party with probably 10 people.  I remember being happy though bc my BFF was there and it was that phase where boys didn't really matter, it was all about the parties and fun.

I just deleted the second paragraph.  LSS, I slept in the back seat of a truck (by myself and happily).  :)  Yes, I was that girl that was always at a party and never knew where she was.

  • My parents and I went to visit some of our friends down in Brownsville.  We watched the millinium celebrations that were broadcast on CNN and then later that night we drove to Padre and lit some fireworks.

  • Talk about feeling old!!

I was passed out on the beach, I felt the wave splashing me, I was feeling cold, that made me wake up! I had passed out on my bathroom floor, the bathtub was over flowing, it was middle of the january first, I couldn't remember how I got home, the last thing I remember is that we were in a club in el paso and we were so happy that the sky didn't fall off when the clock turned 00:00, 2000.
