Just got my medical records from L&D

and little did I know - I thought the whole thing took 15 hrs....nope 16 hours 6 minutes...I might as well take full credit for that extra hour - LOL!!! :)

Plus they thought Austin's cord was a 2 vessel cord....turns out it wasn't - it's all so interesting to read, but so cut and dry compared to what I used to hand write for notes in nursing school - it's all computerized now and they just check or uncheck boxes in the computer!

Re: Just got my medical records from L&D

  • Had you asked for that? I don't know that I ever received that information, although I asked plenty of questions after.

yeah I requested the records....I was just curious as to what it all said...especially with Austin's cord, because they never gave me the results of the labs for that, yet told me they sent it to be examined....and I was so out of it, I never asked for the results while I was there! :)

  • Interesting!  I don't think I would want to read mine, too traumatic as it was.

Why did they send the cord for testing?  I know they sent the placenta for me,  but I also never got the results.

  • Holy crap! ?That's interesting about the cord- I've never heard of that before!

When I read my medical records (needed to get my breast pump reimbursed by med insurance for...), it literally sent me into a full-blown panic attack. ?It said things that no one should have to read. ?As in- my heartrate and blood pressure were almost non-existent. ?In the nursing notes, things like "patient almost bled-out in recovery room". ?I wish I never read it. ? But we are happy and healthy today and that is all that counts.

  • Jeanette - I remember you going through that.... :(

I really just want to see what it said and all, because the nursing staff and doctor really didn't say much to me the whole time - they pretty much just let me do my thing, so I was interested in what their take of it was...but it's all computerized at CMC and they just check boxes...the only comment on the nursing and doctor's notes where "Lisa is a pleasant 30 year old" and that I seemed "anxious" hmmm...wonder why? ;) But I was really very interested in Austin's cord being a 2 vessel cord...but it turns out in the lab that there were 3 vessels....it was just something I was interested in knowing....and come to find out the maternal portion of the placenta was partly gone/deteriorated a bit....probably why I went so early!

I've seen stuff like that in my medical records before- "Patient is a pleasant woman" or whatever. ?Kinda funny that they note our demeanor... : )?

  • in the hospital setting I was trained to write a SOAP note, Subjective Objective Assessment Plan so hence the pleasant woman comment.  I would often put in a quote from the patient to back it up a bit.

The other day my Speech kid was napping when I was there for a visit, but I talked to her dad then her mom and stayed a good while and wanted to bill so I just wrote she was very tired and unable to cooperate with the session (yeah cuz she just got in from a walk and is napping in the jogging stroller!) I left that part out...
