Did you feel the earthquake?

I was at work, kinda freaky!!!

Re: Did you feel the earthquake?

  • I was going to post this same thing.  I was eating lunch at Subway and felt it.  I don't think anyone else in the Subway felt it so I didn't say anything.  I thought maybe I was going crazy but nope 5.8.  Kinda big.  I wonder if there will be any aftershocks :-(  I don't like earthquakes.
  • Yes...I'm at work and there was a little noisy shaky one first before the big one.  My coworker and I looked at each other unsure if it was the AC unit turning on, but then started to really feel it.  I've lived here all my life and do not like earthquakes...especially because of their unpredictability and not knowing when the next one will hit.  It's time for a drink...
  • I felt it, DH thought I was nutz as I felt another one yesterday, slight shake only though. It was big...?
  • I felt it!  Everyone at work thought I was crazy when I asked if they felt an earthquake, but once their spouses started calling they realized I was right.  Turns out one of the wives fell off her bed when it hit and my boss' power is out at his house.  I'm just hoping the mirrors I hung up last night are intact.
  • What time was it?!  I think I missed it but I was way inland.
  • I am about 30 miles from the epi-center...we lost our phones and internet for about 2 hours...I guess it shook hard here...but I was out for a walk and did not feel a thing! When I got back my boss was all freaked out...
  • Man! I never feel them. 3 of my cousins called and asked if I felt it.

  • i did too!  i was washing dishes & saw the family's cat (i nanny), stop & turn then i felt the movement.  the mom was next to me & had no clue!  the dad came running in "did you feel that"!  the little girl slept right through it.  i thought it was really neat to witness an animal sense something was up before it happened.

funny thing, when we first moved here i could always feel slight tremors.  mh thought i was nuts until he found a website that shows the all the recent activity in CA.  we'd check after i told him i felt one & i was!  now i don't.

i hope everyone is ok in LA.

oh, if you're interested here's that website:

I felt it. I actually just moved to CA in October, and this was my first experience with earthquakes. I was a little panicked when I realized what was happening, but after it was over, I was ok. DH didn't feel it at all and was a little bummed. Of course, he thought I was lying to him until he saw the news. Then my coworkers gave the the quick "what to do in case of an earthquake" crash course. I realized living in TX my whole live I have a great idea of how to prep for tornadoes, but never earthquakes!

  • I read about it online last night, and I'm sure glad you girls are all ok!   We don't live there just yet.. so I have no idea what to do when one does happen! Yikes!
  • Joann- When you do move to California, make sure to assemble an earthquake kit so it's readily available in case you need it.  You can probably find a list of what you'll need online, but generally keep flashlights, a radio, spare batteries, nonperishable food, and other necessities in a central location.

Growing up, I always kept a flashlight under my bed and we had lights in our electrical outlets that automatically turned on if the power went out.  It's likely you'll never have to use most of those items, but it's helpful to be prepared in the event you do need them.

  • Joann,

I second the light suggestion.  I grew up in Los Angeles and have been through many earthquakes.  We always keep lots of spare batteries and flashlights around.  And I always have one that is working in an exact location so I know exactly where it is if I have to get it.
