Jacki Re: Indian Food

From what I can tell (I have a friend from India who is slowly teaching me how to cook Indian food), there aren't too many weird ingredients. (A lot of cumin, etc). I'm sure Orlando has a few small Indian grocery stores. If you get into cooking Indian cuisine, go to one of these places...MUCH cheaper for spices and stuff than at Publix.

Also, I live in Gainesville and work on campus, so I'm definitely familiar with the Hare Krishnas Big Smile

Re: Jacki Re: Indian Food

  • No way!  Where do you work?  I miss Gainesville, esp. the food!

Thanks for the info on the Indian food.  I'm searching for some recipes!

  • ***butting in**** Indian recipes call for a lot of curry too don't they? I went to this restaurant a while back that had the best curry chicken I have ever had. I have been to many a Thai restaurant in search of good curry chicken, but have decided that I do not care for Thai curry dishes. What I had was chicken pieces still on the bone that had probably been simmered in a sauce. Where as Thai curry seems to be soupy with rice and coconut milk flavored. Not what I am am looking for at all! Does anyone know of any really good chicken curry recipes that sound like what I had? I don't think I will ever top thinking about this place and that dish I had many years ago!
  • I could be wrong, but I've eaten at Caribbean restaurants that have chicken very similar to that.  Maybe you're looking in the wrong ethnicity?
  • You know what...you might be right! COme to think of it, it may have been a Jamaican restaurant. Good call!!!
  • Sorry to come back so late, but I didn't want you to think I was ignoring you. I can't log on from home :/. Anyway, I'd rather not say what office I work at, but my husband is a PhD student and he definitely enjoys his karma free lunch
