Crock Pot Roast Beef

I'm having mine and FI's parents over for late lunch on Sunday and was hoping to stick a roast in the crock pot before church to serve. I have a good recipe for the stove/oven, that I'm thinking I'll just adapt, but I've never done one in the crock, so I'm not quite sure how I should adjust the liquid, what setting, how long, etc. Anybody have a good recipe or tips?

Re: Crock Pot Roast Beef

  • I usually put enough liquid to cover the roast/veggies.  I cook it on low for 6-8 hours.  So so good.
  • the biggest lesson I have learned (through some badly failed ones!) is make sure to have enough liquid to cover the roast.

I do carrots, potatoes, onions, cream of mushroom soup, packet of lipton onion soup mix, heaping spoonfull of sour cream and s&p.

Also it's a good idea to put some flour on the roast and brown the sides in a really hot skillet prior to putting it in the crockpot.  it will help keep the juices locked in.

  • Thanks! I was planning to sear it before I put it in, just needed to make sure of the liquid, temp and time. Seems like my regular recipe will work well if I just make sure there is enough liquid.
  • The lipton soup packet with the cream of mushroom soup sounds good.  I've done the mushroom soup but never thought about the packet.

Recently I've done it with veg, meat, chicken broth, some herbs and red wine. Yum-o!

And yes, brown the meat first for sure.
