A SIL vent, while I'm at it

We planned the get together at noon on Saturday at the hotel.  We invited one of Redneck's old friends, his mom, and his sisters.  He talked to ALL of them beforehand, everyone thought this would be great.

Noon comes, friend and his wife shows up.  Mom calls, she's on her way, younger SIL is going to put her kids down for a nap, and the other is leaving Missouri at noon.  I start to get pissed.

Mom shows up without her BF.  Apparently younger SIL told her if BF came, she wouldn't bring the kids.  Getting more pissed - she needs to get over her dislike for this boyfriend, realize her mother is 70 years old, has lived with this man for 10+ years, and HE MAKES HER HAPPY.

3 pm - friends leave.  Still nothing from either SIL.  A and I go to Target.  Come back, older SIL had called and was "on her way" (it takes 2 hours to get to Des Moines from her house).

7 pm  - younger SIL finally decides to grace us with her presence.  The kids never took a nap.  She is completely oblivious to anything they are doing.  Nephew (6) locked himself in our hotel room and was throwing beach balls at the TV.  Neice (4) was spazzing out and running all over.  I played with them both and held the baby for a while.  SIL took the baby and put her in the carseat on the table to feed her, then turned around to talk to neice.  Baby sits up, and falls OUT of the carseat - I grabbed the carseat and A caught the baby.  SIL turns around and says "Oh, did she sit up?"  DUH.

8 pm - older SIL shows up.  They decide to exchange gifts, as both SIL's ate before getting there.  I've got 4 hungry kids.  We give presents to the neices, nephew, and SIL/BILs.  Older SIL collects presents for her adult kids and grandkids, but does not hand out a single present or even a card to anyone.  Then both SILs proceed to hit the bar and leave me with the kids.  By the time they left I had downed half a bottle of wine (in a Ramada cup, so as not to be kicked out) and had not eaten.  MIL brought a crock pot into our room and we had some munchies at about 10.

We wasted an entire day waiting for them to show up.  If they had said "Hey, we're not going to be there until 7" we could have done things differently.  I wanted to go to the mall, Redneck wanted to go visit a friend who's homebound.  But we kept getting "We're on our way/we'll be there soon" so we burned the whole day.  Soooo frustrated!

Re: A SIL vent, while I'm at it

  • I absolutely HATE when plans get screwed up.  Especially wasting a day when you're not from that area and have things to do...

AND-the laving the kids while they go to the bar-def not cool! Was this one of your first times hanging w the SIL's?

    UGH.
(Amused by the Ramada cup and the vino, though...Yes )

  • Good Lord, how rude of them.  I'd have been b!tch slapping left and right.

Sometimes I think SILs are God's test to make us more patient.

  • You are clearly a SAINT! I would have boiled over at about 5pm, called them up, cussed them out and went to dinner with my family...

I can not stand people who do not have common curtosy for others, let alone their own damn family! GAH!

  • OMG that's so incredibly obnoxious!  I don't know how you could have put up with their rudeness!  I haaaate people like that...they need to get over themselves and realize the world doesn't revolve around them.  UGH!

That's funny, because I pulled Redneck aside and said "Amber needs to learn the entire f'ing world does not revolve around her pretty little @ss!"  (She's the younger SIL, and spoiled silly).  He said next time we go to Iowa, we won't tell anyone but his mom that we're coming. LOL!
