I find it ironic

That EmilyKate's all about a frugal, self-sustaining lifestyle, including making her own poo, cheese, kefir, Xmas crafts, etc. But she also admits to having her blog up all day long so she can watch it. How much money do you suppose they spend on their internet connection? And how much electricity do you think it takes to keep her computer on all day? They don't have a TV, but it's okay to have a computer?

Just one more thing I don't get.

Re: I find it ironic

  • I don't follow her blog, but from reading all your posts on here...that woman is a mess of contradictions about everything.
  • I hate it when people are all "I'm better than you because I don't watch TV." but then they rent movies and watch shows in their computer. Hypocrite.

i don't care what other people watch or don't watch, but if they don't watch tv, i am pretty sure we will not be friends.  it's right up there with drinking red bull and vodkas and saying "pretty woman" is your favorite movie.

  • I always respond "I'm so sorry" when people tell me they don't have TV. Throws them every time.

  • I love my TV, his name is Stevie. I just hate it when people insunuate that TV makes you stupid. Just think of all that we have learned from Tough Love and IDIWP. And then there are all of the medical mystery shows...I swear I could be a medical doctor. I know some of you guys have your Law & Order JDs.

  • we don't have cable but we're not PROUD of that...

    we're just kinda poor.

    This screams Varuna to me.

  • We don't have cable because we're cheap. And we've found ways to watch our favorite cable shows online. All we're really missing is Comedy Central and the Discovery Channel.
  • I don't think I'm better than anyone b/c we don't have cable.  We dropped it b/c we were in a budget crunch.  We've just never gotten it back b/c 1) it has never been cost effective for us when you look at usage versus cost, even if we could afford it now and 2) the shows I do like, I just pull off the internet.  I don't think I've ever made any sort of "You ladies are idiots for watching TV" comment.

Honestly, I think I get judged for NOT having tv, more than I judge anyone for having TV.  People get all veklempt and weirded out, like I'm some sort of unicorn that they have to keep blinking to believe they're seeing. They tend to assume that I think I'm too good to watch television or something.  I just don't find it worth my time.  I can watch my show on Hulu and spend about 3 minutes with commercials total, rather than 17 minutes.  And since I'm not watching all of that advertising, I usually don't know about new shows.  In all reality, WW is my queue in for a show worth watching.

Quite frankly, I think my internet habit is just as judgeworthy as television addiction, it's just different.
