Murder Mystery?

I'm tempted to throw a murder mystery dinner/party but have never attended one.  Has anyone been to one?

If so, did you enjoy it? And what was the theme?  Any recommendations?

For those who haven't been to one, would you attend if someone you knew was throwing one?

I have thrown two - the first was super successful, the second a bit less so.  Our friends do get into it and dress in the suggested costume, etc.  I would certainly have one again.

We have bought the box games - one was wine and murder, set in CA at a winery.  The second was a 50's theme class reunion.  The box sets are great - it has all the materials, including costume and food suggestions.

We went to one on NYE last year (not last night). DH and I thought it was lame. We really couldn't get into it, but some other guests really enjoyed it. Thankfully there was alcohol and it was over by the time dinner finished. We moved on to normal conversation and we were happy. I guess it ust depends on your guests and if they are into it. It's not our thing though.

DH and I wouldn't go, but we're social rejects.  I'd much rather eat and drink and hang out with my friends.

Depends on your group of friends.  I would be into it, but I think most of my friends would think it was lame.  If I knew they would be into it, I probably would have hosted one. I think it sounds fun.

DH and I had one it was a wedding theme one we did it for our wedding shower. It was awesome everyone really got into it, dressed up and it was great for people of all ages. There were a few people that had been to one before, but it was our first time. There was one lady that brought these fake flowers and told people that they would get an extra hint if they had one after the first half of the game. She said that in order for them to get one they had to give her x amount of dollars (of their fake money). She obviously won the money bag award at the end. We talked to our friends first and the people who were most interested we gave the biggest parts to play. Anyways, we and everyone that came had a blast. We would do one again in a heartbeat and highly recommend it.
