baby-que shower ideas

Hey ladies! I'm throwing a co-ed baby shower. I want to do a bbq. My Husband offered to cook on the grill and have pulled pork in croc pot. Is it tacky to do bbq in January? It's not snowing, it's still high 40's to 50's & my husband again, insists on cooking outside. He thinks it will allow the guys to be outdoors and bond. I know the girls will stay in and talk baby.

I want this shower to be casual and a get together more than an annoying baby shower. It's my baby shower I just want to be sure it's not tacky to others.

Re: baby-que shower ideas

  • I don't think that a BBQ in January is tacky.  Just have a backup in case the weather isn't agreeable.  That being said, throwing a shower for yourself is considered poor etiquette, so if you're worried about coming across as tacky, that's what will be noticed, not the BBQ part.
  • I think it's fine as long as you have enough room for all of your guests to hang out/eat inside if it's cold or they just don't want to be outside - guys included.

  • I don't think it's tacky.  That'd be too cold for a lot of people to stay outside the whole time, but if you have plenty of room inside and only do the cooking outside you should be fine.
  • I like that it is called a baby-que.

Please tell me we're just confused and you're not actually throwing a baby shower for yourselves.

  • A baby-que in January isn't tacky.  A baby-que for yourself is.
  • Agreed with PPs. Throwing yourself a baby shower is rude and tacky. You do realize that by throwing yourself a baby shower you are just ASKING for presents. Blech. Ick!

  • I have some friends that are doing the same kind of thing... inviting people over to their house for a shower.  But the food is being provided by family, not the couple.  No one in our circle really cares about this though, it's fine to "kinda host your own shower"

But, if you're worried about what some people might say, I'd suggest having it *officially* hosted by a close friend or relative.  And then it just happens to be at your house and your husband happens to be the one maning the grill.

BTW - I think BBQ in January sounds like fun!  Just be sure to have back-up space available inside if happens to get too chilly.  Or have some extra blankets on hand for those who want to hang with the cook.

     Good luck!
