Big, inexpensive grocery bags

Hi ladies.  I don't really frequent this board but I'm looking for some help. I'm wondering wear I could buy  a few inexpensive, big bags for my grocery shopping.  Any recs would be greatly appreciated!  TIA!

Re: Big, inexpensive grocery bags

  • The ones I like the best I bought at my grocery store. Most stores sell them for 99 cents now.

You don't want them too big, as the stuff on top tends to squish the stuff underneath.

  • One of my biggest bags is the big, blue one from Ikea. Not sure of the price, but, if you are an IKEA shopper, I'd pick one (or more) up. I also use one for a laundry basket.

The other reasonably priced bags I have were bought right at Hannaford, which is a New England-based grocery store. I love them because they fold up to be really easy to store and carry and they were 2/$3 when I bought them. I'd check out what your grocery store has to save on shipping.

  • I bought some Burban Bags via Amazon.com. They are larger than the ones the grocery stores/Target sell, with longer handles. I can easily carry them over my shoulder even once they're loaded up. They hold a ton of stuff.

  • I really like the big bags from Whole Foods.  They're  very sturdy.  But pretty much any grocery store sells them for 0.99 now.  I have a ton of mismatched bags, 2 from WF, 1 from Wegman's, 2 from Bloom, and a couple from random environmental groups like the Nature Conservancy & the Sierra Club.

  • I have a couple from wegmans that I really like.  They're the recycled plastic ones and they also have harder plastic inserts for the base (think plastic milk jug).  They fit a ton and the straps are longer and thicker.  I also have a couple Trader Joe's ones that are similar but not as nice.
  • Marshalls and TJ maxx have HUGE ones for $.99. I love mine, so far.
  • I really like the ones from Whole Foods - $.99. They're sturdy and hold their shape when you're putting the food inside.

I also have a couple from Trader Joe's, but they're a little more flimsy. I also have some from Harris Teeter (a southern grocery store chain).

Target has some nice canvas ones.
