who's had an IUD yanked?

I'm getting mine taken out TOMORROW MORNING! (Yikes). It hurt like heck going in. What kind of pain can I expect when it comes out? Any of you have any experience with this? And how were your periods after it came out? AF is just leaving me now, I have no idea what to expect as she was almost non-existant with this thing in me for the past 3 years. TIA!

Re: who's had an IUD yanked?

  • Oh, God. "Yanked"?? That makes it sound much worse than I bet it is!

I have never had one. I just wanted to say good luck! :)

  • its like a mili second of pain.  not even that.  like a pinch... i had already had tony so thats why i got one and i loved it but it didnt love me.... i had my period for 26 days, 4 days off/.// that went on over 6 mos so i had absolutely had it with it.  adn it was over in literally 1 second.  i thought for sure it was going to be agonizing. but it was cake.  =)  you will do fine.  =)

  • could you not use the word "yanked" to describe it?  i'm crossing my legs in pain over here now from that image.
  • Haha! Like Kim said, it really isnt that bad coming out (though, i didnt think it was all that horrible going in). It takes like 2 seconds.  You could almost do it at home, it was so easy.  Not that i would suggest doing it at home, lol but you get my point.

As for AF, well after the first month, mine went right back to normal.  Between Chad and Kaleb i was on the Depo Shot (for almost 5 years) and had NO period.  Then after Christian I got the IUD and kept it from 2003 until 2007.  I had a very regular AF (every 28 days to the T).  So you should go to a normal cycle very quickly.  Key word being "should"

  • I agree, the term "yanked" probably makes it sound more painful than it is! OUCHERS!  I'm sure it will be just fine.  Good luck tomorrow morning!
  • youre so right!  you really could take it out at home its that easy/  =)

  • I do have a way with words, huh? Sorry ladies... but anyway, when I had it inserted, the pain was AWFUL. They said that was very normal, as i've never had a child before (typically a pre-requisite for this IUD) so my cervix has never been dilated. I went from 0 to 2 cm so it was like being given a very strong contraction I guess? OUCH! Either way, i'm sure having it removed (there, is that a better word?) will be way easier, so thanks for the input. I'm just gonna take some tylenol beforehand, just in case :)
