Yay, I am so excited. I am taking babysteps to becoming more....green and living a simpler life. I got a working 1/2 share and it was only $190. When I left, he gave me some eggs that were just layed today! I can't wait for summer to get here. I want to thank whoever had prevously posted the link to localharvest.org because that's what I used to find this one.

Re: Joined a CSA today!
I don't post on this board, but I was just going to come see if I could find anything about CSAs! I'm really thinking of joining one, but it's just DH and I, and I'm worried that it will be more than we can eat. Any thoughts? TIA!
::Runs to check localharvest.com out::
Yay, congrats!
To MKESweetie: You can always find a friend to split a share with; or read up on preserving techniques ahead of time so you can plan to freeze/can what you can't eat during the summer. I'm finishing up a book on how to make the most of your CSA Share, and once you get in a rhythm it goes quite smoothly. If not, well, your refrigerator might look like ours the first year we did a CSA:
We get a regular CSA box for just DH and I and we don't usually have a problem finishing what's in there. I should say though that I'm a vegetarian so we eat A LOT of produce and we're pretty adventurous eaters so nothing we get in there scares us off. You have to be willing to try out new produce cooked in new ways, and eat a good amount of it (which isn't a bad thing!) to get through all the stuff you'll get.
I suggest trying to find a CSA that will do a half share if you're concerned about the amount. Or, get the regular share for a couple of weeks and see how you guys do on it. You can also find a friend/neighbor who might be willing to share the box's contents with you.
Good luck!
Wendy, I love that pic! Thank you.
To both of you with suggestions, thank you for your feedback. We're really looking for ways to eat local and organic and not double our grocery bills, and this seems like a good one. I appreciate your help!
I am laughing so hard at the refrigerator picture! What is the name of the book you're reading? I'd love to take a look at it--- I can see how it'd be easy to get a stockpile and not know what to do with it!

I'm writing it right now, it's called The Local Cook's Guide to Making the Most of Your CSA Share. I hope to have it done within the next month.
There are two "real" books that I highly recommend.
One is kind of known as the CSA Bible, as it's an A to Z listing of vegetables including storage and cooking tips and recipes. It's called From Asparagus to Zucchini
The other one, I haven't heard much about it but my mom gave it to me for Christmas last year and I referred to it all the time this past year. It's called The Busy Person's Guide to Preserving Food
